I've decided that the one thing worse...

...than being held up by slow players is being let through when you don't want to.

I had a day off yesterday and went out for a practice round on my own - suddenly I found myself actually playing golf instead of my usual hacking and even improving as the round went on. Even getting complimentary comments from other golfers and thats very rare.

The high handicappers will know how I was feeling (and the better golfers might remember) as on the 15th I KNOW that nice and steady bogey golf - and I was only hitting a 6I from the tee & fairway as per the Aftford theory - is going to get me 88 or perhaps better on a course where my previous best was 96.

Next thing the group ahead insist I go through "the way you are playing" - well you know the rest; 2 shanks, 2 duffed chips and a 3 putt later thats 9 on the Par 5 - and only because I claimed a generous gimme. Par 3 next - plonked my tee shot into the water.

Ah well there's always next time.

If you want, next time this happens, tell the group in front of you "thanks, but no thanks, I not in any hurry." Then you can watch them hit their shots with someone else watching them. Unless I am in a big hurry, which I am usually not, I never play through a group in front of me. That way I can stay with in the game I brought to the course that day, with out any distractions. Although I am not a slow player, I never want to be hurried while golfing. Most of the time, if time is a factor, I just join their group. GJS

You are never required to accept being let through. It is entirely up to you.
