Does standard minus 1" club hits shorter?

I am 5'6" and from my wrist measurement to the ground, it was recommended by club customisation sites that i should use standard length minus 1" clubs.
My question is, does a standard length minus 1" club of let's say 7 Iron hit as far as a standard length club of 7 Iron, assuming that i am swinging it with equal effort?
This question arise becoz last nite when i went driving, i found that i could hit the ball about 15 yards further with a standard length club, compared to my own standard length minus 1" club. Could anyone please enlighten me?

Each club is designed with a certain lie angle. If your club is longer than your build requires you will interfere with the design characteristics and may produce off target hits.

I would be surprised if the difference would produce the 15 yard increase without you having to make compensations in your swing, if it did we would all be using longer clubs

Two factors at play here:

Factor one, regardless of gear, is whether or not you're getting center strikes on the clubface with the shorter clubs. If not, you're certainly going to lose yardage.

The other factor is whether or not you simply reshafted with shorter shafts, or are hitting new clubs altogether. If the latter is true, the lofts may be totally different, which easily accounts for the 15 yard difference.

Overall, I'd have to say that, all other things being equal (save the missing inch), a 15 yard loss is a swing issue, not a 1" issue.

I am not very sure if i have subconciously altered my swing when i was using the standard length club, i doubt i have tho coz i dont think i am that expert in changing my swing just to accomodate for the 1" longer club.
when i think bout it (correct me if i am wrong) the length difference between say 7I and 6I is 1/2", but that can product a 10yards difference when hit. i know the loft of the club also has a role to play in determining the distance being hit, but just imagine what 1/2" can do.
that being said, i was thinking if its possible that a standard length minus 1" club has an inherent disadvantage of being shorter thus when hit, will produce shorter hits, all things being equal...
as for the standard length club that i tried and got 15 yards more, its not new but its graphite tho, and i have been using steel shaft irons. maybe i am more suited to use graphite coz of the flex?

i had irons custom fitted in the summer that were standard minus 1" and i reckon i get 15 yards MORE than my old standard mizuno's!

if you grip down the grip say an inch you only lose about 4 yard and if you take 2 inches off you lose about 8 yard, thats how it works with me on avg, so i can tweek my distance between clubs a little but i really dont think that taking an inch of the shaft would lose you 15 yards.

If you're still soling the club the same way with shorter clubs (and lie angles have NOT been altered), then your swing is forced to change.

The reason there's a 1/2" change between clubs is to keep the swingweights close. There's no other logical reason to do it. Loft is the #1 determiner of distance. Now, if you reshafted from steel to graphite, the clubs may be too light for you - throwing off your tempo, and ultimately your swing.

i think it was "shark" the cut an inch off all there clubshafts years ago and said it gave you more control than a standerd set, think the angle of the shaft was ajusted for the shorened shaft, its like longer shafts you do hit longer but lose control so its a ballance and like you said if you take an inch off the shaft the club head moved closer and the swing is a little more upright. if the lie has not been ajusted afterthe shaft been cut the toe will hit the ground first. its like you have been saying for ages that you need to be fitted for your clubs as so many things can made a diffrence, the lie of the club, the type of shaft used, even the thickness of the grip, all make a big diffrence.

i think i've gotta try out another different set of irons which are graphite and also standard minus 1", and if i can hit further than i can now, then it's probably the shaft flex which is too stiff for me since i am using steel now...and i think maybe the weight of the steel shaft is also heavier, which makes my swing somewhat slower?...
