What are you going to improve for next year?

As a continuation of the thread How much have you improved this year?, here's your opportunity to share what you are going to practice this winter and what you're hoping the results will be. I'll go first:

1. Practice putting indoors with my new Boomerang
2. Practice short game on the course and in the garden (weather permitting)
3. Every sunday the club has a "winter tour" event that I will participate in
4. I will not go to the range much, but will try to swing a weighted club in the garden every day

Hopefully this will result in better putting and short game ==> lower scores.

Re: What are you going to improve for next year?

I think I will try and sacrifice power and distance for abit more accuracy and I will try and relax more over a shot and swing within myself. Putting practice will be a priority, also changing to left below right on the grip. Bring on next year!!!

While hitting balls into the net this winter, I will be focusing on losing focus while over the ball, and just swinging.

Also, putter practice with the Boomerang and Dennco, and chipping practice as well.

Re: What are you going to improve for next year?

The number of times I am able to get out with a child under 1yr. For my first boy the following season I got out 5 times. With the second boy at 6weeks old and the other under 2yrs, right now it is looking like 5 times might be the impossible dream.

As far as golf skills, I will be working on distance control on my basement carpet - like I did last year with really good results.

Equipment: Finallize my equipment - I know what I want for irons just need to put it together - but I am still looking for wedges that will fit the bill (most courses around here have concrete sand traps so bounce is a detriment).

Re: What are you going to improve for next year?

without doubt i am going to spend my winter working on my bunker shots and my putting.
have just had my putter cut down to a more suitable length and so will be trying to groove a reliable putting stroke and make 3 putts a thing of the past!

Re: What are you going to improve for next year?

I am going to work on finding MY swing. I have torn mine apart and rebuilding through the very basics. I want to be able to hava my swing to where I know exactly how I built it and if something falls off I know how to fix it on the fly. After i get the swing closer to where I want it, I will be working on finding MY putting stroke.

Positieves I have seen so far, I am keeping the ball in play better and double bogeys happen about once out of two rounds,
Highest score while in this process is an 83
not hitting the ball OB of the tee, I honestly cannot remember doing so in the last 6 rounds

negatives, I want my swing now

I'm going to stick to one swing and try to get a bit better at my driving. I'm also going to play in the worst weather conditions whenever possible. There's a City Championship next year and I plan on competing for the first time and hopefully winning.

The best thing I did last year was play in horrible weather (ok - Tropical Storm Alberto while in Orlando, but anyway). You learn a lot playing in bad weather - your swing changes (you cannot be aggressive, or if you do, your grip locks down), your grips are slick (so you find out in a hurry how to keep 'em as dry as possible), and the ball comes down fast. Not to mention, most storms bring wind, too.

However, day 1 of our Club Championship was bad weather - and I shot a personal best, sitting on the confidence of knowing that a little rain and a little wind was nothing compared to a tropical storm.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

Re: What are you going to improve for next year?

I'm going to practice on making sure that my bad shots are as harmless as possible by keeping my hands quiet, and grooving my chipping so that when I do miss the green on approach I can knock it stiff for an easy par putt.

I'm also going to join a golf club and stop going to the driving range with the ****py balls that make me get all handsy to compensate for the fact that they don't fly properly.

What do I hope to achieve? Breaking par would be my goal. My last 3 rounds have all been mid-70's (as much a surprise to me as anyone!) but that would be my goal if I can dream a little.

Re: What are you going to improve for next year?

I'm moving to a one-plane swing, which is a big task for one winter. But I know it will pay off in the summer. Also I'm going to try to perfect my short game shots ("finesse swings", chips, putts) also using video. Im going to implement Dave Pelz's 4x3 system, or 3x3 for me, to my game. My game was really bad inside 100 yards this summer. So I'm also learning the 9 o'clock finesse swing. I can't really groove my short game otherwise, I can only hit balls in the simulator during the winter.
