good start to 2007

hi all
got the year off to a good start!
playing a par 71 championship standard course in the howling wind and rain managed a 91!
it doesnt sound that good but considering i couldnt stand still on the putting green most of the time im very pleased.
tee to green i played probably the best ever.
too many 3 putts or i could have had a low 80's score
hope to carry this form throughout the year and practise the putting and short game more

Re: good start to 2007

Well done mate - always nice to come off feeling you've played well.

What's up with the putting? Missing the six-footers? Por lag? Both?

Anyway a while ago I found this site http://puttingzone.com/ its all a bit technical for me as I like to "feel" the putt but have a look....

When I do (not enough) practice putting my favourite drill is The Putting Square...

Find a hole that has an uphill, downhill, left to right and right to left putt.
Place a tee 3` from the hole for each of the above putts.

You need to make 3-putts in a row from each tee. Every time you miss, add 1-point to your score, but you must make 3 in a row to move to the next tee.

Once you get around the Putting Square, move each tee 1` back and continue around at 4` and 5`.

According to the site I picked this up from the scores below are the actual average scores from golfers in their respective categories.

US PGA Tour Pro: 0 to 3 misses
US Nationwide Tour Pro: 4 to 6 misses
US College Player 8 to 15 misses
10 Handicap 18 to 25 misses

I normally hover around the 28 mark but one glorious summer day I finished the square in 10.

To me the third putt from each position is the nearest thing to real life putting pressure.

Anyone else got any favourite drills?

Don't beat yourself up too much Slats. If you can reach the greens in regulation and 2 putt everything then you will be doing great.
