Question Is this score possible?

Hi All,

At last w/ends club 9 hole comp, I scored a very respectable 23pts. My playing partners assured me I was in with a serious shout.

On checking scores in todays local press, I was amazed to see a return of a winning 27pts.

I am scratching my head wondering about this!!!

Add if you get to all four par fives in two as opposed to three shots, then you get 58.

...scratch that, I see you accounted for the fives and using the par threes.

Re: Is this score possible?

No that is still not right, you have four par 3's, four par 5's and 10 par 4's in a par 72 course. if you hit all in regulation par 3's in 1 par five in 3, and par four on 2, that 10x2=20 plus 4x1= 4 and 4x3=12 which is 36 plus 18 one putts which is 54 if you made every par five in two you could shoot a 50. perfect round

Re: Is this score possible?

And if one or two of the Par 4's were a bit shortish, maybe an albatross or two. AND, seeing as you are playing the perfect round, you get one or two Holes in One on the par 3's, somewhere as low as 46 off the stick is remotely possible. HIGHLY unlikely, BUT, we can dream...

That said, I had presumed Rob was talking Stableford points for 9 holes...?

If so, 23 points is good, 27 very good. I've seen a guy card 30pts for 9 holes, but, it was a little unusual, because he'd "played dead" on his handicap cards and wanted to see how big a score he could post...

Bandits everywhere apparently...

Cheers

Re: Is this score possible?

Guys,
Thanks for your input. I need a calculator at this stage.

The point I was trying to make related to the "perfect score" of 27. I dont think I have seen a result above 24 throughout the winter 9 hole comps. Surely on the law of average this score is unusual. Aso take into account, wet fairways, ball stopping dead on every shot and the odd missed putt or two?

Re: Is this score possible?

If the guy plays off 28 then he gets 14 shots so thats at least 1 every hole and 2 shots on 5 of the holes. So theoretically a par on each hole would be 32 points so to score 27 you would have made 5 bogeys which on a par 36 would be 41 shots. So it is possible, but highly unlikely.

As the man said, there are bandits everywhere....

Very dubious but in the end they only cheat themselves and they always get found out. If they think a nine hole stableford comp is worth cheating for then they have serious issues.

Re: Is this score possible?

Time to get the scissors out for a cut there. Playing to handicap would return 18. Robert, I think you should keep your head down and not catch the handicap secretary's eye either.
