| Re: women vs men's golf Quote:
I just stated the reason men are better is because of physical strength, which is entirely true. I also said the reason for lack of popularity of women's golf is because it has not been around as long, and the overlapping of tour events. This is just my opinion, but you can feel free to offer your objections. Regarding skill, Peter asked whether women are considered equal to men in skill. The clear answer is no. He is referring to perception, the perception of women in general is that they are not as skilled as men. The perception of Michelle Wie is that she has the skill of men, or at least the potential to get there, that is why she is afforded the oppurtunity to compete with Men.

| Re: women vs men's golf its nice to see theres another cynic out there edshaw. Was anyone else horrified by Wie's outfit at the european tour event she played in, the little black number. This is a girl who has not yet reached the age of consent in the US being exploited (if you can think of another word, by all means let m know) by Nike. It was horrible, at least the likes of Natalie Gulbis and Sophie Sandolo are playing the system and they are savvy to it, do you seriously think Wie thought about those sort of implications when she got poured into that outfit? On the subject of Mens V Womens golf, I like to draw an analogy with boxing, Mens golf is like the Heavyweight division, all power no subtelty and the Womens is like Middleweight, far better to watch, much more enjoyable. When you watch womens golf you see how you should play a long iron into a tricky par 4 green or how you should plan a par 5. The mens game is so removed from the popular game. Very very few amateurs will ever be face with a 7 iron second shot into a 500+yard par 5 just as very few would be hitting a mid iron into a 200+yard par 3. D.

Are men naturally/physiologically better at putting? Off the tee, are women less accurate? What is it about the physical design of women that makes them less skilled? |

| Re: women vs men's golf I just want to know why Michelle Wie, since she is trying to win in a men's tournament, doesn't have to play from the designated tees of the day that every other player in the competition is playing from. The men don't play from the "men's" tees, they play from the designated "professional" tees. So is Michelle really playing on a level field as the rest. The amatuers don't get to play from the "whites". Since I can't drive it 325 yds you think they would let me tee from the closer tees just because I can't keep up with everyone? If she does actually win a tournament would they have to put an asterisk beside her name with the quote "played alternate shorter course" Sorry for the rant, just my opinion.

Don't know why but I always thought she tee'd off from shorter ones. Got myself all worked up for nothing. Ricky |

| Re: women vs men's golf I suppose I am on the cynical side on this subject, Mizunoman. Can't apologize for it, though. I mean, people rag on WalMart but at least WalMart makes an effort to pass on some of the savings to the consumer. Nike (and others I won't name) take top dollar and shove it in their pockets. (That doesn't mean you'll ever wrench my SQ driver out of my hands, mind ya.) |

| Re: women vs men's golf I read the following article on a website S4Par recommended. It is an interesting point on why Women's anatomy make some throwing type actions more difficult than men. "Anatomically, women are slightly different than men especially in the elbow angle, which is called carrying-angle. Women have a slight angle outward at the elbow thus making it more difficult for them to throw overhand or swing through the ball. As this elbow angle increases past ten degrees, these women are found to be more successful in throwing underarm. When women with larger elbow angles are taught golf instruction in the same manner as men, shoulder injuries and elbow injuries become more prevalent since this swing movement is unnatural with this larger carrying-angle and affect the biomechanics of the golf swing. "

| Re: women vs men's golf Just to make one thing completely clear: Michelle Wie plays of the same tees as any other participant in the tournaments she plays. |

| Re: women vs men's golf Hi guys, Just to resurrect a discussion that has been dead for a year. All through the thread there is the acknowledgment of the physical difference between men and women in the power game. This I am not going to dispute, but you could very easily have great golf matches between men and women, both playing off the same tees. It comes down to ball technology. If all the men play with a ball that flies 40-50 yards less then the women's ball, you will then have a competitive game in all aspects. This idea would mean there is no sex difference between all aspects of the game, only player differences. ![]() Christopher |

| Re: women vs men's golf hi if you look at Lorena Ochoa she is long and has a really good all round game and the best in the world for the last year. the list of really good women golfers is getting bigger and there overall game has improver and so many girls from Asia play so well now. i wonder why there is never a mixed doubles competition where you could see some of the top women golfer play with some of the best men golfers. i do think many would be shocked by how close that gaps getting and M Wie did not do the women any good playing in the mens game before she could beat the top women or even compete in there top ten week on week. cheers bill
