Best Ball Opinions

Marketing hype aside...

I am interested in hearing what people have found to be the best ball for the following. Here is what I think.

1. Longest Ball---longest consistent driving ball that I have ever played was/is the Calloway HX Hot red.

2. Best ball around the green.---Bridgestone tour ball 330 ...In my best Borat voice NICE....

3. Best short iron ball for spin.---Titlest Pro V1.

4. Best ball for windy conditions---Noodle long and soft.

5. Best endurnace ball---Top Flight strata.

6. worst ball ever----found this clear nearly dimple free Volvik ball--hit like a rock, distance sucked--looked ugly as.. mate...

Interested to hear what everyone else thinks. I actually like to play balls that I find on the course--- And will buy balls that I have played and like. I am not brand bound as they say. I truely feel that hot days, cold days, windy days, long courses, short courses, etc can and will be played better with different balls.

Re: Best Ball Opinions

The advice I was given by my old club's pro was in the wind, put the soft cover "spin" ball away and go for the distance "rock"...

So, on still days when I can go at targets (to the best of my own abilities) I like to play either a Precept U Tri Tour Balata, Strata Balata, MaxFli Revolution Tour or Hogan Apex Tour (I think, but it's been a while....)

When going to a distance ball, I usually reach for the stockpile of MaxFli D-Tec distance balls I have in the shed......

That said, I got a couple of sleeves of Pro V1's during the week and I'm going to go with one of them tomorrow morning....

Cheers

Re: Best Ball Opinions

There is no disputing the quality of a Pro V 1 and other expensive balls. I do find they scuff up so fast and I have a job to get through 18 holes with one in the winter.

For value and a very acceptable ball that hits long and has reasonable feel I like the Pinnacle Exception or if I can find them their new CLR. I believe the Exception is made by Titlest and is a badged NXT, but much cheaper.

Re: Best Ball Opinions

Probably laughable compared to all those posh names gone before. But the Dunlop DDH suits my game great.

Re: Best Ball Opinions

1. Longest Ball---lCallaway HX Hot/Pinnacle Gold Long Drive/Nike Black

2. Best ball around the green.---Bridgestone 330S/Nike Platinum

3. Best short iron ball for spin.---Titlest Pro V1.

4. Best ball for windy conditions---Callaway HX Tour

5. Best endurance ball---Pick your prefered marble. For premium balls I've been really impressed by Nike Ones (both colours) for lasting much longer than the competition.

Most underrated ball --- Srixon Z-UR series. Combines the benefits of the Titleist/Nike/Callaway balls but without the brand hype(although they are starting to change that!)

Re: Best Ball Opinions

I use Titleist NXT Tour. Its not so expensive. It stops very good on the greens and flies long.

Re: Best Ball Opinions

I use the balls that read distance on them.
I like the pinnacles .
I will not use the dirt cheap no name balls though. I bought a bag of balls at walmart to chip around the yard . I have hit a couple with the mower and noticed the cores were not completely full. Maybe 3/4 full or less. There is no doubt these balls would not fly good. Im thinking they were Dunlops. Bottom of the line balls. Im sure Dunlop makes some good balls but not these.

Re: Best Ball Opinions

I like playing with the ProV-1's. Lucky enough that's what the high school golf team uses so I find enough around the course I haven't had to buy any.

I also found a couple taylormade's I liked but can't remember which kind they were.

Has anybody tried the Wilson PX3's from the reviews I've read it's very comparable to the proV's but half the cost.
