| Re: The pros handicap As an aside to this, most really good amateurs handicaps are kept artificially low by the standard of the lesser players they compete against in strokeplay tourneys. For example, in competitions at St Andrews off the back sticks, pretty much anyone who doesnt play to +2 or better has a hard time staying close to CSS. As a result the guys who just s****e in the ballot tend to blow their load all over a course 800 yards longer than they are used to, which pulls the CSS up to 75 and the guys off the really low handicaps tend to only need to chop round in par (and lets not forget these guys are pros in all but contract so are easily capable of this) to stay where they are. But a few of them will have a good day and shoot 66 or so and get a little chop. And of course, all american amateur handicaps are stupid anyway, since they can pick and choose what rounds they want to submit. D.
