Golfing goals.(Random thoughts)

After reading some posts I wondered what the normal golfing goal is for most people. Should scratch be the ultimate goal?
My goal is to be a low to mid eighties shooter with an occasional round in the upper 70s.My last 3 out of four rounds have been upper eighties. Im close to my goal. Realistically I dont have the time it takes to be a scratch golfer. I do think everyone has the potential though. I think with a sound repeatable swing and a "decent" short game I can can play weekly to this goal and enjoy the game. Maybe when my kids get older I will have more time and will adjust my goals .
I guess everyone has their own goals .

Re: Golfing goals.(Random thoughts)

A good question and a good point.

I agree that everyone has the potential to be scratch. Just like everyone has the potential to be muscular, or skinny, or curvy. Or a pilot, or a sewer rat, or anything else.

As you've also stated, the key is that it takes time and work to achieve these goals - no matter what they are.

As for my golf goals, I'm currently weilding multiple goals, but no plan.

One goal is to eliminate my slice with my driver. The first cause is gone with concious manipulation, but shows up when swinging unconciously. More drillwork, I guess.

Another goal is to drop my handicap into the teens. I realise this means playing bogey golf or better. I think achieving the previous goal will directly effect the success of this goal. That, and short game practice.

Another goal is to work on a good impact position. I know what good impact sounds like, but can't achieve it beyond a less-than-half swing.

Oh well.

Good topic, SH.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

Try using the 32 ball drill ... I believe this is a ClearKeys method.

Hit 4 balls paying close attention to mechanics.
Hit 4 balls with a clear mind (*)
Repeat for a total of 32 balls.

(*) The trick is to have a "clear key" which is a phrase or snippet of a song which can be recited during the "clear mind" balls. The important part is that the "clear key" must not have anything to do with golf ... one or all of your kids names ... and be long enough to fit in with the entire swing.

You will need to do this for a number of range sessions before the "clear mind" will start to become second nature.

I agree with you about your driver. I bet when you fix that slice you will drop an easy five strokes or better. I was forunate enough to play alot with my friend who shoots in the 70s. He helped me get to bogey golf fairly quick by helping me manage the courses to keep the big numbers off the card. Unfortunately his swing is so funky he couldny help me much in that department.

Good luck with your goals !
