Cool ooh yeah!!!! first eagle

ooh man. what a surreal experience

before i begin.

i had always thought that my first eagle would have bee at Redcliffe GC, 4th hole. par 5, 465m hard dogleg left, last 120m up hill. i have his this green in 2 twice and on about 7 other occasions i have been chipping from no more than 15m for eagle only to come up 18" short on all those times.

anyway.. today, i thought, "change of course". i went and played Nudgee GC as i haven't played here in well over a year. 8th hole. one of the longer par5's on teh course at 495m.

my drive i pulled left, wasn't a bad shot, maybe hit it 220m, but meant i had to hit a slight draw around the tree infront of me. i hit a 3w absolutely perfectly to within 95m from the hole - middle of the fairway.

now the next shot has been troubling me over the last few weeks. hitting a PW at 80% as i normally hit this club about 110 on a 1/2 decent swing.

I swing....... oh ****.. i've hit it thin.... i'm yelling at the ball to get down. its been hit just left of the flag and not bending much, finally touches grass, bounces 15" infront of the hole (apon closer inspection), hits the flag stick 5" up and drops in.

i didn't know what to think.. i looked at my other team members who saw it drop "did it go in.... i mean, did it really go in". they had to keep telling me "yes", but still i didn't beleive them.... i didn't know whether to swear, to lay on the ground and make grass angels or jump for joy as it was such a surreal experience.

as i was walking up to the hole, it was the deepest hole on the face of the planet. ... it was cruel... it wasn't until i was right up over the hole that i saw my ball smiling at me (no not literally).

anyway. thats my rant and i gotta let it out...

Re: ooh yeah!!!! first eagle

You never forget, do you?

#8 at my home course (a 9 holer) has been very good to me.

First; I hit a 5 iron off the tee, then kinda chunk my approach. The fairway grass is dormant (course just opened), the pin's in front, I'm 17 paced yards from the cup. I pull out the Texas wedge, and proceed to knock it in for my first birdie.

Next; in a tournament, I hit my tee shot well, but get a kick into the rough 140 yards out. The grass is thin and burnt out. I grab an 8 iron. A pull-fade goes just the right distance, and hops towards the pin. As it's fading in, I mutter "go in the hole, then." It seems as though I've rolled off the back. But when we get to the green and I can't find my ball, like an ass I state that it's probably in the cup. And it was. Eagle.

Sadly, for #8 to give me an ace, I'd have to drive the ball 338 yards.

Congrats on your eagle!

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

Re: ooh yeah!!!! first eagle

i can now forget about my most dissapointing birdie which i shot 2 months ago.... 115m out, 20kn of cross wind and i put it to within 4cm of the hole. exactly the right length, but just missed. very easy tap in for birdie, but 4cm away from an eagle on a par4.

Re: ooh yeah!!!! first eagle

Congrats!

I am still waiting for an eagle, but I have had about 5 eagle putt chances ... well maybe next time.
