Re: for sale IGOLF GPS CADDIE

Question without notice Mr Speaker.......???

Why do you need a GPS on a golf course...

Do they not have adequate signage between tees and greens...???

So long as there is a big sign pointing the way to the 19th...

It's all good...!!!

Cheers

Do they have one that comes with laser eye treatment so I can read the screen?

LOL - and for me that's only half the problem; I then have to hit the ball the required distance consistently

You're one of those 'fairways and greens' buggers, aren't you!

It's especially useful when you're on the far side of the adjacent fairway, but can still go at the green.

Slats has started something here, no chance of closing this one yet.

Hey Ian! Did you look in your old bag for it?

Back to the subject matter (or an extension of it):

I am with Scraggs here, why do you really need it? Surely part of the skill in the game is looking at a target, judging the weather, ground conditions and hazards then making a decision on what club will get you there. A GPS will not do all that for you.

okay just to shut you muppets up
i mislaid it when tidying the boot of my car, i put it with some other stuff in a carrier bag and took it inside the house when i was swapping bags and then forgot to transfer to the new bag!
i have been using the device to measure my club distance and to measure out the holes to make a course planner i have not used it during around with anyone. the markers on my course are not that accurate!
the 2 coupled together are helping me to be more accurate

Certainly part of the game is figuring out lie, wind, line, etc, but based off a proper yardage is important, too.

Everyone likes to point to what the pros have to and don't have to put up with. Favourites include footprints in bunkers, shaggy or inconsistent greens, and clubs that don't fit. The other thing they don't have to put up with is pacing off sprinkler heads that may or may not reflect changes to the course (or the location of the sprinklerhead!)

What I've found, especially on the home course, is that using a GPS/rangefinder is quite helpful for familiarizing yourself with yardages from places less than 10 paces from the barber pole. It translates into confidence when you aren't allowed to use the device (Tournament) and threre you are, near a known yardage.

Where I'm at now on the home course is verifying my yardage AFTER my shot, to see if my assumption was correct.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

MMmmm Yes, I can see all that but it's a bit like measuring the distance to my waste paper basket before tossing the latest screwed up letter offering to put a million dollars into my bank account into it

The fun is in making an educated guess for distance and relying on the feel for the shot. You know: "Whats this shot 8 or 9 iron? Greens are not holding today so a 9 iron, I could try a three quarter 8 so that it rolled up that gap, that's it then a 3/4 8 then!" Generally speaking if the shot is over 180 yards off the fairway I don't need to know the distance, if its under then the interesting part is choosing your weapon based on your on board cerebral computer system.

I guess I am rambling and lost track a bit. It's what lights your bonfire really. Now! I wonder if this guy will really put that money in my bank account

Re: for sale IGOLF GPS CADDIE

I hear you... but I like making those decisions starting with a known varible - ACCURATE yardage to the middle, or to the flag. From there, I love choosing a half seven rather than a full PW to keep it under the wind in the treetops. It blows my mind when my coach hits a 130 yard 6 iron 'to keep it low', but still hits it well so that it one-hops and stops.

Re: for sale IGOLF GPS CADDIE

Brian and Scraggs - I kind of see what you mean, but what's the difference between a using a yardage book and a GPS? Or are yardage books 'not cricket' either?
