On the range

I just thought i would tell fellow golfers of my practice routine and get your views.Istart off with a few wedges and then a few 7 irons.I then play holes in my mind that i know.It stops just constantly hitting ball after ball with the same club and becomes a bit more interesting.Time and time again i see so many people just whacking balls as hard as they can without any real thought for what they are doing, they've done about hundred balls in about half hour and got tottally nothing out of it.Play holes in your head and enjoy this frustrating yet brilliant game.Don,t get the putter out though or people will think you've gone cuckoo. Please reply.

I keep a journal of rounds I play and practice sessions and notes while I play so I know what to work on. It's fun to work on what we do best, I do maintenance work on that stuff to keep it at a good level. I concentrate on what is wrong and get the worse thing better. I mean who would want to spend alot of money to hit a lot of pitch shots. Show me someone who does and I'll show you a near scratch golfer!!!

I also keep a bag of full swing Stuff, pvc pipe and fittings to make hitting stations, Rope 4' and 8'for the rope drills, big convex mirror so I can see my swing (I'm working on a bigger mirror in a pvc pipe stand that is portable and folds up. I have my mind set to practice and have a plan on what I'm going to work on before I get there.

I also have a short game bag of stuff. For putting: Pencils with string for putting under a line, pen laser thing I use at home, little plastic stick that sticks on the front of a putter to show direction, measuring tape, bubble levels (4), tees. For wedges, string, tees, direction stick, miscellaneous toys.

I do a lot of testing for new shots. It just makes it more fun.

Hello Golfbald
As i told you in my last mail to you i seem to be improving, but to get my handicap right down i need to practise from 100 yards in.I wouldbe very interested in trying out a few of your drills. In the states what with the good weather i suppose you play a lot of target golf where as over here we have to play a lot of low 7 irons to keep it low and allow for the conditionsspecially if your playing links golf.

Cabbie,

I've been working on a low rolling 5 wood and a soft punch 9i to 100 yards. Both are very low shots and pretty high percentage of good contact. I'm still working on the details and want to get the percentages upa little before I post them. I have catalogued about 30 shots from 100 yards and in. Some are done, some I am still working on. I want to put together a series of VCD on the short game so I can use it teaching my High Schoolers.
