| Rookwood Golf Course in Horsham, West Sussex Rookwood Golf Course Public course, 18 holes run by the local council. This course is maturing nicely, is well kept and is a challenge to both amatuers as well as seasoned golfers. Has some really challenging/fun holes including: Hole 1 - is a great way to start. Big open fairway to take the pressure off the 1st shot of the day. Hole 2 - Can you drive the green? - it's 270 yards if you dare go straight at it, and you have to clear the lake !! Hole 3 - 160 yards will set you up perfectly for a chip over the river onto an elevated green. After hole 6 you pass the Food hut. Order your coffee, sandwich or Burger. Then play 7, 8 and 9. As you come back round your food is waiting for you.....nice. Hole 12 - is a long, fairly tight par 5, with out-of-bounds to the left, and as you approach the green, it's protected by water on the right. Watch out for the Swans, as they often sit on the green. Hole 18 is a big hitters paradise. The wind always comes from behind, and on an elevated tee you get a good view down the fairway. Bunkers both left & right appear from 240 - 280 yards, so hit it straight. A good eagle chance for big distance players. The Clubhouse is a beautful converted sussex barn. The only downside? If I was going to whinge about something, I'd say it needed a driving range, or a least nets so I could warm up a little before teeing off. It does have a 9 hole putting practice green. There is also a 9 hole pitch & put, which is great for improving your short game, or taking the kids. A 4 ball on a Saturday morning costs us £19 each, but book in advance. This great course is getting very popular. |
