Unhappy Pray for Rain!!!!!!

hey guys,
Im a newbie from Central Texas... I recently found a nice little 18 hole public course in Rising Star Texas called Rolling Oaks.
It hasnt rained here in over 5 months....
if youve watched the news there is a new grass fire at least once a week. One fire a little bit north of here burned down 110 homes, literaly the entire town....
Also the drout has turned this pretty little course into a sea of brown and dying grass....
The fairways are now bareways... The greens are browns... everything else has just become hard solid dirt that you would have to have a pick in order to make a divot...

Any other Texans out there that can relate?

Re: Pray for Rain!!!!!!

i agree,
The president got involved.. He declared it a disaster area... and Gave some government funding... also Fire insurance is very common here...
Also there has been many fundraisers to help with the cost... So far ive only heard good things... People here in Texas are proud and they dont have a reputation of crying about things to the government, But from what i gather the ones that suffered the major losses where for the most part helped out... Of course you can never replace some things...

Re: Pray for Rain!!!!!!

No real threat of drought here as it conveniently rains every weekend here in GA, quite nice and sunny during the week while I'm at work though.

You tried rain dancing? I've always heard hanging a kill't snake in tree works too (tried it once, only ended up causing my bro-inlaw to cuss me out)

Re: Pray for Rain!!!!!!

We have a similar situation here in SE England. Drought warnings across the region and hosepipe/spinkler bans. Golf Courses are having to get water delivered from the Continent (costing up to £9000 per week). The likelihood is that some smaller courses may go out of business.

Sorry to hear that, Matt. The world needs MORE golf courses, not less.

Re: Pray for Rain!!!!!!

My wife and i spent our honeymoon touring in the lake district.
after 5 days of non-stop downpour i said to a local chap " does it ever do anything but rain here"? and he replied "aye , sometimes it snows "

absolutely true story i swear.

According to the Water Authority (or whatever they're called) the levels are all due to low Winter rainfall. It could p*ss down all summer and not make much difference!

And yes it is very localised. Everywhere else seems to be ok. If you listen to talk radio this has been a recurring topic for the last couple of months.
