| Cold weather effects on graphite shafts? I did a search then I browsed through this particular sub forum and could not find a thread on this (maybe that's a hint  ).A guy here at work said to be careful using graphite shafted clubs on cold days (< 50* F). He said there was an increased risk of breaking/shattering the shaft. Is this really a concern? I have the chance to play this weekend and the day is supposed to start out at around 36* and get up to about 58*. Thoughts? Thanks.  |

| Re: Cold weather effects on graphite shafts? hi my friends and me often play in winter up here (Scotland) and its often -2 to about 7% with the wind chill. we all use graphite shafted drivers and never head of anyone braking one due to the cold weather. think it would be more likely hitting into the frozen ground and snapping the shaft than it being just down to the cold. we once played in the snow about 10 years ago on new years day and that was about -7% but we only played 9 holes and there was 11 of us in total, lots of fun. bill

| Re: Cold weather effects on graphite shafts? Well, I think he was talking mostly about irons which would be more likely to contact the ground hard. Sounds like an unfounded concern based on responses here and a general lack of information online about this. Thanks! |

| Re: Cold weather effects on graphite shafts? Colder weather will have an effect on ball flight due to air density, but I have never heard of any problems with graphite, or steel shafts. If you are playing off of frozen ground, you might damage a shaft (or your wrists) at the hosel due to impacting the ground with the club head. Now I have heard about clubs that were stored in high heat area such as the trunk of a car, that weakens the epoxy bond especially in the desert south west climates.
