| SMT Drivers Been testing again, this time it was SMT Nemesis and Shinnecock. The Nemesis has the distinction of having no scoring lines on the face. This is definately a long drive club. The model I tested had a Assasin II shaft and 7* of loft. Smooth, good looks but took a little to get used to. I would say this is the hottest driver I've used in a while. This club is a not for a beginner. The extra 10-20 yards to me wasn't worth the inconsistant flight and handling. This one is for the long drive comps. A lot of roll after it lands. The Shinnecock was a better match for a regular course. Also 7* and Assasin II shaft. Hot face but not as much roll due to the scoring lines. Great look. Can't say enough about this one, large sweet spot, sound was not a thunk like a bang club and not a tink of a Callaway somewhere in between. 280 was nothing for this club. Stepped on one and knocked it 310 with a little reserve. This is a players club. If I had to pick between the two, I'd take the Shinnecock. I thought it might replace my Callaway Biggest Big Bertha 9*. Haven't decided yet. GolfBald

| SMT in the bag Tried a SMT Nenesis from my clubmaker friend. What a cannon! Played a 4 ball a couple of weeks ago, average drive 290. Longest drive 330 into a 15 mph wind! I've been working on my release lately. I ordered a SMT HP420 from Pat Dempsey at Horsepower Golf. He is a Remax Long Drive Champion and designer of the clubhead. This head is even better. The setup is square, and very easy on the eyes. I will report back when I complete my testing of the HP420. The shaft is a Penley ETA Tour Stiff flex and a Winn Harmony Diamond Dry. GolfBald

| SMT Nemesis and HP420 Tested SMT Nemesis and HP420 along with a Callaway Biggest Big Betha and an Integra Viktory. All the clubs were shafted identically and gripped identically. The Nemesis on the initial test scored the highest. The ballflight, length, ease of hitting. #1 Callaway and Integra ties for second and the HP420 came in third. I had to give the HP420 a fair shake since it was hit last. After so may balls hit I may have been a little off. To give it the benefit of the doubt a second set was hit later in the day. The HP420 hit beautifully. I would rank it up with the Nemesis. Great set of heads. A student of mine bought a 12* Nemesis with an Accuflex LD regular flex. Great combo for the average player, he has a slower swing speed (80-85mph). I hit it and it loaded very well. The SMT clubs were ordered from www.horsepowergolf.com from Pat Dempsey a Long Drive champion. These SMT heads are not just for long drive they are for everyone. I know I'm contridicting my first post on the Nemesis but I have to give credit were it was due. I was wrong about it being a clubhead anyone can use. Shaft it right and it works! Just my opinion, GolfBald

| Well back at the long drive practice. I decided to try to qualift for the Remax Long Drive Comp. An average drive is 350 to qualify and 375 to get in the finals. I tried the Penley ETA Stiff (not the long drive model) and it couldn't stand the pressure of the swing. It bent terribly and wouldn't load properly. I called Pat Dempsey back, it nice to know Long Drive guys will help each other, and we talked shafts this time. He recommended a Accuflex Pro LD at XXX flex 50 1/2" to start. Seems a bit extreme but the Penley at 48" was a Senior shaft in comparison. The Stiff flex is at 45" I'm told. #" doesn't seem like much but the middle of the shaft was like a peice of rubber. When I brough my hands down 3 " straight as an arrow. I'm learning much about how equipment affects the ball flight. We will see how this new one goes. Sending the club back tommorrow. I'll keep this open on training for long drive. Might help some folks. We'll see. R/S GolfBald
