Mizuno MP57 V MP60

Anyone have any experience of either set? Thinking about upgrading from my current set of Mizunos as they are starting to show signs of real wear and tear.

I'm playing MP-60s ... brilliant set of clubs. Buttery smooth.
Not easy to play, but amazing feedback and absolutely sexy to look at. At handicap 4, you should have no problems at all.
The MP-57 should be slightly easier to play - larger sweetspot and lower COG.

If upgrading from MP-30. I don't think you'll feel much difference if you go to MP-60 or MP-57.

I can definately recommend the quality of the MP-60s, but my best suggestion would be to try the MP-67.

I like the Wishon 560 myself - low offset, forged with a milled cavity. Ridiculously forgiving to boot. Medium topline.

For me, I'd probably play the one I like the look of best - I don't know that I'll see a gigantic difference between the 57 and 60.

I love the look of the MP67 but I'm a bit scared of them, have never used blades before and i'm a bit concerned that off centre hits will be punishing.

I've read that the MP57 have a higher launch so again this is putting me off.

I intend to try both the 57 and 60 at the range but not sure if i'll learn much hitting horrible range balls.

At a 4 handicap, hopefully the number of mishits will be minimal.

On the other hand, the number of shots with improved feel and control will be plenty.

I don't know how the launch of the MP-57 is compared to the MP-30, but the MP-60 certainly does launch high. The good thing is that the ball drops dead out of the sky at the desired distance. :-)

I don't think you'll find too much trouble in blades compared to the MP-30. Neither the 30s nor the 60s (or 57s for that matter) are much of a cavity back iron anyway.

I bought some demo 6-irons from Mizuno - MP-23, MP-33 and MP-37. The MP-60 plays a lot like the MP-37. Definately more like a blade than a game-improvement iron like the MP-23. I don't think you should fear the MP-67s.

Another option would be to pick up a set of used MP-32s on ebay or similar places. They go for next to nothing compared to a new set of clubs. Get a set that is as close to the config you need when it comes to shaft stiffness. Then you can try them out on the course.

Once you've made your decision, sell the MP-32s again and get the kit you've decided on and a proper fitting.

Dont bother, find yourself a decent set of MP37's, MP29's or MP14's.

I had a set of 60's and they wore through on the faces pretty quick. They just dont seem to be as well finished as the 29's, 30's or 33's

The generation of bat you have seems to be the best of the recent products. My MP33's were much more robust as well. The 67's and 57's are good clubs but to be honest the MP37's are the very very best.

My Current set are the best set of irons i've ever used but unfortunately they are starting to really show their age, the grooves aren't as sharp as they used to be and the heads have lots of marks from banging against each other (why didn't I buy headcovers)!! Hench the reason why I want to purchase a set now and get used to them before the competitions begin in april/may.

I'm really unsure which set to buy after reading your comments about the MP60's. I'll def but mizuno and would like to buy brand new but can def appreciate what your saying about the 37's, they look amazing. I've never used blades but think i'd be ok as i'm a decent striker of the ball.

As mentioned earlier in this thread i've read that 57's and 60's have a high launch angle, not sure how they compare to my 30's.

Your comments are appreciated. Any help would be fantastic.

is there not a big Mizuno fitting center near you. it may be an idea to take a day off and book a fitting and travel to one and get fitted and try diffrent Mizuno head with diffrent shafts, that way you will know what club head you have a feel for and also get to try diffrent shafts in that head and really have a club that is fitted to you and not you being fitted to the club.
i think if buying a new set then this is the way to do it, it don't cost that much more in money terms but it does take more time but i think in the long term you will be happier with the results and the clubs.

Just been on the Mizuno site, the nearest fitting centre to me is in Glasgow. Definitely going to consider it.

my HC is 15 and I play with a blade like MP32. If I can hit it, you at a HC 4 will just love it. I like the idea of buying a 2nd hand MP 32 set to see how it feels playing with blades.

Yes folks I know I am not good enough for MP32 blades but its just magic when i hit them sweet.( I can live with the shank once in a while)

By the same logic, I'm not good enough to play the MP-60s either.
However, I'm absolutely sure, that the better response actually helps me develop my swing. I'm never in doubt whether I hit the sweet spot, the heel or the toe - so I can never hide my mistakes, only work through them.


But hey - another thing to consider is talking to your local Pro. Ask him/her if you would be wasting your time with MP-32s or MP-67s.

Yeah thats what i've done, he says my game will improve no end with blades. He recommends Titleist blades though. I've my heart set on Mizuno ones.

Heavy and clunky and no one plays them or has ever played them more to the point, all the pros who had 'Titleist' blades were playing bats made by Golfsmith to their fave blade design with the Titleist logo stamped on them afterwards. Why do you think they made so many different sets??

Tigers were just rebadged MP14's for example (as are his 'Nike' blades).

37's play just as well as the 60's, its mostly a matter of comfort at address because they are just a little bit bigger than a fag paper!

BTW if you are getting fitted, see if you can specify Nippon shafts, best in the business.

As for launch angle you have to remember that Mizunos are usually a wee bit more lofted through the set than anyone else a Mizuno 7 iron is the same now as it was when Jose and Sandy used them in the 80's, whereas everyone else is now playing a 6 iron or maybe even a 5 1/2 with 7 stamped on the bottom (Ping, Callaway, step forwards as the main offenders here). Be aware that mizunos tend to launch higher and go shorter than pretty much any other bat in their class, even the game improv models (MX's)

If I was being really picky I would still suggest scouring ebay or golfbidder for a set of MP33's because they are still the daddies. You will find a few relatively unmolested sets out there, but get them in a 400 weight if you go for Dynamic Gold, they need the extra weight in the shaft for balance in my opinion.

At the end of the day you are going for a precision instrument so they are all very much the same, I dont think launch angle really changes much head design to head design so find the shaft you like, thats the most important thing, Rifle Proj X's or Nippons are the way to go.

One last thing, do not under any circumstances accept a set with the bog standard Golf Prode grips, they are truly truly vile, I honestly cant be disparaging enough about them without resorting to foul language!!! Go for full cord victory or Dual Durometer, I think you can get both of them at no extra cost.
