Top Flite

Hello,
I use Top Flite golf balls. I was just wondering how these compare to the expensive balls like Pro Vs or other big name ones?

i also use top flite (T) golf balls and find them as good as most top balls but not as good pro v but that balls almost twice the price of a top flight, Callaway took over top fligh a few years ago but still make balls in the top flite brand.

With golf balls it really all comes down to personal preference, when I started playing again a couple of years ago I tried a sleeve of Pro-V's and for feel and control they were ( for me ) excellent.
Bill ( the previous post ) uses Top-Flite T's and mentioned to me how good they were, I'm going to try them and see how they work out, nothing ventured, nothing gained. I've said this before, distance is a non issue, most of the balls out there, give or take a couple of yards are going to be mostly the same so don't get caught up in all the commercial B.S.
One thing to take into consideration, if for example in the middle of the Summer when the greens are firm and running fast how is the ball going to react when landing on the green ?
That's when my Pro-V's pay off, I know how the ball is going to react on a 50 yard shot from a tight lie to a firm green. Price may be an issue for some when it comes to the high end balls, with all the new technology out there it becomes a mind game trying to choose the ball best suited for you.
Spend a few dollars ( or pounds ) and buy a few sleeves of different balls, you will know what feels good when you hit them and then you have to determine what you expect for your money. I'm not by any means saying that Pro-V's are the best, not at all, like I said at the beginning it's really all about personal preference.

one other thing with the pro v is it has a softer cover and wears quicker but it also stops quicker on the greens. its a trade off having a ball that lasts more than a round of golf. i use to have smt durometer wedges and the really cut up the pro v balls and scuffed them, i found it was not so bad with the top flite and can use a ball for a good 6 to 8 rounds before it gets scuffed and goes into my pratice bag. with the pro v i may get 2 or 3 rounds before it gets sruffed up badly.
i do think the pro v is the better ball, it not longer but it stops better but wears quicker.

i would love to see a test where the pro's hit the top 6 or 8 balls on the market but not know what ball is what and then pick the one they thought best. i think there would be a few suprises in the results.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried many brands, but they were recycled, so the original finish was gone. I do like Top Flites though. They are a good price, and they have a good feel.

Now for the million dollar question:

Which Top Flites are you playing?

IMO:

Top Flite D2 Distance (red package) - it doesn't spin and feels harsh
Top Flite D2 Feel (green package) - a fantastic ball for the price. Not as spinny as Urethane balls (ProV1, Nike One Platinum/Black) but good spin around the green and feels OK.
Top Flite Strata TL Tour - my ball of choice right now. Great spin around the green, feels good, and spins a little too much off the driver.

Then there's the D2 blue package, and the TL Extreme, neither of which I've played. And lets not forget the XL 2000 (spin), the XL 3000 (distance) and the Z-Balata (the spinniest ball ever, but feels GREAT!)

I usually play Top Flite XL, and try all sorts of types. I haven't tried many other than XL, XL2000 and XL3000.

I usually use either Pinnacle Exception or the new Top Flite Gamer. The Gamer is a real sleeper. I won some at a local club outing. At around $20.00, they are a steal! Good distance and spin. Reasonably soft off the clubl too.

I think that your top flight brand will get you some yards off the tee, but will not stop as quick with a well struck iron or wedge.

Golf Digest gave the Gamer a "Gold" rating. 3 piece ball that is my new favorite ball - had my first putt for eagle (518 yd 5 par - missed the putt of course) with this ball. I love how it feels around the greens. I credit this ball with making me a better golfer than I really am! At $20 (US) an incredible ball.
