Re: Golf Ball retriever

It all depends on your personal preference. I prefer a firmer grip myself, and currently like the Sharpro half cord.

If you want a little more feel, or more weather-resistant grips, the winn Copper RF's are good.

Re: Golf Ball retriever

Full cord - less slippage when wet - especially after you have pulled an "aquaman". Losing a ball to a watery grave is one thing, but losing your retriever could result in no balls for the back nine.

Re: Golf Ball retriever

I've been working on my mental approach to the game of late and am following Dink J Battersons' * advice not to take a retriever as it engenders a negative approach to the game.

* For those that don't know him, and the books are out of print, Dink was Bob Rotella's pysch lecturer in college.

I shall have to pull it out (excuse the pun) but my latterday Guru Norbington Hackett had some sound advice in his book "The 256 fundamentals of the modern golf swing" He insisted that the use of Ball Retrievers in golf was not cricket as their bark is rather off putting and the way they splash around in water hazards is not good for the wildlife.

He did have a rather radical opinion for it's time on the psychological effects of using these modern non canine devices in that (and I quote) "Any golfer that carries more than one ball in his bag will never reach his full potential in golf or life"

Will we ever see the likes of him again?

Re: Golf Ball retriever

Get a grip guys I was trying to post some humour here.By the way I do not own a ball retriever. My game is all over the place at present maybe I should invest in one.
I am waiting patiently for things to go right for me on course.I am practicing very hard, hitting the ball well on the range, scoring well in practice rounds but just not doing the business in medal comps.
I played in a matchplay comp last week and beat my opponent 7 and 6. I seem to play well in matchplay. My problem is simple. 4 to 5 holes throughout the round damage my score in medal and stableford comps. I seem to lose concentration at times.
If only I could release those demons which seem to trip me up over those 4 to 5 holes throughout the round.
If only I could learn to stay in the zone for the full 18.
Any ideas guys would be much appreciated.
Regard Bogeygolfer.

Dink J Batterson? Norbington Hackett? And you think we were being serious?

As to the blow up holes all I can suggest are the old cliches of "take your medicine" and "play the shot you can play not the one you hope you can" depending on the circumstances.

Following, or at least trying to follow this advice, I'm gradually getting better, though I still tend to have at least one card wrecker per round

For example last week on our SI 1 I actually got my best drive of the day away; so was the idea to follow that up by going for the 180 yard high rescue wood over the bunker the right one? or would laying up to the nice open approach setting up a safe bogey (or with an up and down a par) been better ?

Well I hope you realized that the two Canuks responded in jest. However, LP is a club maker, so that little gem will be cut and pasted away for my personal reference manual.

My advice? Dont try to stay concentrated for 18 holes. Its mentally draining and physically tiring to stay focused for 4+ hours. Dont bother being focused between shots but when you are about 10-20m from your ball start to get back in the zone.

Best of luck with the regripping!
