| Golf shaft at impact? Hello everyone! I have a question for anyone that would like to respond. I got a new gadget recently, it's called a Flip Video HD. (Meant to film the kids, but can pull double duty at the golf range!) It has taken some excellent video and I have pulled frames from the videos of my shots. After looking at these frames, some questions have arisen. I play about a 14-15 handicap, I have stiff flex irons (steel) and x-stiff (graphite)on driver. I have a natural draw (I'm left-handed on everything I do except golf). If I miss a shot, it is a hook. In the frames from the video it appears the golf shaft is unloading just before impact. Should this be happening? (I have had my golf swing analyzed, I swing in the 105+mph with the driver) The video is not good enough to catch impact on anything I have shot, but shutter speed shows shaft clearly. It seems like I have read somewhere that I shouldn't be too concerned about what the club shaft is doing right around the ball at impact. Is that true? I have looked at Golf Digest online and their swing sequences of various players. I noticed most of the pictures have a start of downswing, impact and follow-thru (when club is pointing down shot line) shot. Nothing of which where I'm seeing the flex in the shaft in my shots. I am happy with my directional control. I'm addicted to this game and want to learn more. I'm just wondering if I have a swing flaw, if I have the right shafts or is that what a club normally does? (All the shots I took on the video were directionally accurate.) Thanks, Buck

| Re: Golf shaft at impact? Hi Buck, Regarding the shaft unloading just before impact, that is what it's supposed to do. Take a look at this video. You can slo-mo-stop-action the video by pulsing on the pause button. Do this, when the clubhead is close to Tiger's right foot. You will see the unloading. The other neat thing is after impact, you have the shaft recoiling with a reverse bend. As you know, if the shaft is too weak for your swing, the flexing (loading) will be too great and it will be very difficult to return the face to square Ted |
