Anyone tried the SMT drivers?

What do you think of them?

Question Are SMT Drivers good?

Me to. I have heard that quite a few of the long drive hitters use them. I think they are a lot cheaper than the big brands. Doe sanyone know if they are any good?

Re: SMT drivers

I have used the Nemesis, HP420, Spectrum, Deep Bore 455.

All are great heads. They are not clones, they are original design components. I know Mike Tait the owner of SMT. His website www.SMTgolf.com has all the specs. I am currently playing a Spectrum with an Aggressive Frenzy Prototype shaft and am testing the Long Drive model. great shaft and head combo.

Other great component heads worth mentioning, Bang Golf, Alpha Golf ( I play an Alpha Reaction v425, awesome head), Ashton Golf out of Canada has the best 3 wood I've ever hit, tee shots 280. There driver head rocks, and they are coming out with a new driver model soon. All of these are original designs, and in my mind through testing and the tour, SMT #1 in driving distance on the Nationwide Tour and the tour in general I think with the Spectrum.

If anyone is looking for Nano technology in a shaft, Accuflex, Tom Watsons company of choice, has a new Evolution model out. I'll be getting one soon, I'll post a review.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. I test alot of equipment and can get info from the sources.

Re: SMT drivers

Bwood,

When you see the tour players playing custom prototype models of those heads, they are not the off the shelf model the everyday player hits, not even remotely close. The unless it's a tour model, it's not played on the tour.

The amazing thing is Long Drivers do play the off the shelf models. We get them just like anyone else, and they better perform. Nothing like caving in a face or two. I've cracked one and flattened a face this year.

Another fact, the OEM clubheads are made at the same foundries in China. So where would you spend your money. I used to by OEM drivers, but I have found the components (not CLONES) are of equal and in most cases superior quality. Lower batch runs and better QA.

Concentrate on finding a shaft that matches your swing and a high quality shaft, you game will be better for it.

A look at the inside,

GolfBald

Re: SMT drivers

I have the Nemesis..this club has lived up to all the good that you have heard...I'm taking it from an Accuflex Extreme stiff shaft to a "softer" shaft because I swing slower than LDA people...try it, you'll be pleasantly surprised..

Re: SMT drivers

bgathens,

There are several great new shafts out there. I get to hit about everything that comes out.

If your on the left side of the pond, I would highly recommend:

Mercury Savage - smooth, virtually no spines, fast recovery even at a slower speed. I got word yesterday from Terry Gould, they are about 6 months away from a new material for shafts. Space age stuff! $50

LowProGolf.com has a new Aggressive Frenzy 70 shaft - I am currently using/testing it in my graphite playing club. More prominant spines, but also a smooth shaft. Unique design, it has a table rolled sheet core and filement wound outside structure. The best of both worlds. I can really smack this one. If I get tired during a round the shaft adjusts to the speed. One of the top 3 shafts If ever hit, and that includes the $200 Fuji's. $50 - 55

SK Fiber - 3 shafts for 3 different swings. Soft, Pure Energy - Med, Rev. Lite 1 - Stiff, Rev Lite 2. I currently use the Rev Lite 1 in my 3 wood. Breaking with the tradition of a heavier shaft, mine is 60 grams. I hit it about 270-280 off the tee. Greak performing shaft, don't let the price fool you, they don't do mainstream advertising to keep the cost down, $25 - $35 - $45.

I'll be posting a lot of reviews soon for things I have or am testing.

Re: SMT drivers

Golfbald:

thanks for the input....if I could keep it in the $50 range, that would be
great....I have DG Lite in my irons and love it...I swing the driver about 95 - 100 (age) and have great success with the "Pro-Lite" Regular flex in my 983K..I'm intrigued by the SK you suggested...one of my playing partners has
an SK in a 'lite' version and loves it....
