Ben Hogan Edge Hybrid club, anyone use one or ever try one?

I was thinking about getting one to replace my 3 iron which has always been a bit intimidating for me.

I have tried hybrid clubs, I think they are awesome I was hitting a hybrid 4 iron and found it got much more height than my 4 iron and the distance was closer to my 3 iron. My suggestion is to try them out firstly.

Alot of my freinds have the ram rescue clubs, they are cheap and good! but i preffer the taylormade 1s, but they are great in sticky situations

Trust me ... make the swap and you won't regret it. Having a wider sole means you won't chunk it as much. It's easier to get the ball airborne becuase of the lower centre of gravity. A hybrid is great out of the rough if you have a decent enough lie for it, whereas a 3-iron out of thr rough isn't normally a good idea.

I swopped my 2-iron & 4-iron for hybrids (I dont carry a 3 iron and never have) and I tell you what ... I don't regret it for a second. Lots of players on "the tour" are using them too.

Thanks guys, I read that Gary McCord said he thinks over 70% of the PGA players are carrying some type of hybrid or rescue club weather they are paid by a manufacturers or not.

Since my 3i just takes up a slot in my bag most of the time one of these hybrids will probably be my next purchase. Like I needed a reason to buy another club.

The thing to do is accidentally on purpose break the shaft of the 3-iron. When you get home, tell your wife it's broken and needs to be replaced. Make a big song and dance ... right.

Then you feel justified in replacing it because your 3-iron is broken and your wife won't flip out when we she sees you admiring new new purchase. You can't fix your 3-iron because you won't be able to match the shafts, so you might as well buy the new 'thing'.

See ... I've been married a l-o-n-g time!

Graham, that's tooo funny.

I'm not married but my lady never seems notice anything golf related. When I got my new bag last week and was putting my clubs in it she never even noticed. Since I have so many old clubs/putters around the house, and since I'm always messing with them (putting on new grips, changing out the shafts etc) she doesn't seem to notice what's old and what's new. I also have everything delivered to my job, just in case.

But when she comes home with new shoes or that new dress I notice it immediately. She says I'm just toooo darn aware of stuff sometimes.

My wife notices EVERYTHING. Let me not notice something different and her and them in serious sh1t.

Seriously though, hybrids have got to be the best thing in golf since cavity backs. Get it and I promose you you won't regret it.

I am in the same boat Graham is in. My wife can tell by the look on my face whether I have even been LOOKING at new clubs.

Something else you may want to try is a 7W. One of my co workers just got one last fall and it hit the exact same distance as his 3I (about 160 yrds.) I tried it out and for a cheap Wilson 7W, it was quite impressive. I hit it dead straight every time, except I was only getting 4I distance (about 205 yrds), but he is shorter than me and had the shaft cut down about an inch.

I have an Adams 5w which I really like, but when I'm in the tough stuff it still doesn't get down deep enough to pop the ball out the way I'd like (it's great in the short grass though); I think the deep grass shots is what interested me when considering a rescue club.

I've got a pair of Syncron Medic hybrids - 22* and 26* and I absolutely love them. They're Nike CPR clones, but oh well.

They're much, much easier to hit (especially if you're a rookie golfer like me and have trouble with a steeper swing, and prefer to sweep), and they get the ball much more airborne, travel roughly the same distance as the clubs they replaced, but without as much roll (ie the carry to roll ratio is much smaller for hybrids than long irons).

Well i just need to know, what wood or hybird covers a 3iron? as i h8 mine is it an 18deg? and wat deg is a 7wood?

a 3I is usually at 21*. A 7W is typically 21* as well, depending on manufacturer and whether or not it is a strong 7W (essentially a 6W). THe difference is that a 7W has a bit more mass behind it ans the shaft is typically longer, therefor you would get a bit more distance. If you were to get a 7W and it was hitting a bit farther than you want, you could alway strim the shaft. You would have a distance that better fills your gaps and with a shorter shaft your should be more accurate.
