What balls

What balls
BALLS!

I'm a 12 handicap using distance balls, tried soft spin balls but I loose too much distance compared to what I gain around the greens. Anyone know a happy medium. All the pro shops etc recommend the ball they have in stock and not a unbiased view.

Re: What balls

Top Flites are generally hard and long but they do make a range of softer balls that provide a reasonable compromise between distance and spin. Not premium balls to say the least but you get what you pay for.

I recently bought some Wilson DNA Spin at an incredibly low price from American Golf Discount. They feel fantastic and I haven't noticed an appreciable reduction in distance. They also seem to be reasonably hard wearing so again they might be a good compromise.

Re: What balls

Keith,

Go out and buy yourself a pack of the refurbished Pro-V1's to try. They are the best distance balls out there!!! Try this experiment, take your distance ball and a Pro-V1 and drop them from shoulder height onto a concrete slab. I bet the Pro-V1 bounces higher.

Failing that, the Wilson range does get a reasonably good name as Ph suggests.

I would suggest the Titleist NXT tour as well its a pretty good all rounder.

D.

Re: What balls

I love the NXT TOur's, you can buy 100 perfect condition used balls on ebay for less than 50 bucks. They fly forever and are forgiving around the green. Especially if you know how to use ebay you can get on hell of a deal on balls.

Re: What balls

If you can still find them, Nike TA2 LNG are an excellent value. They are long, and still provide a good amount of spin. Also, Nike One Black's are a slightly cheaper alternative to the prov1x and perform every bit as well.

Re: What balls

Maxfli Noodles are good - in all their incarnations.

I also like Top Flite XL 3000s - a good distance ball, and so-so at holding greens (in other words, pretty good for a distance ball).

Re: What balls

Now that the air is thicker and your ball doesnt fly that far, the best balls are balls like Red Callaway, Nike Mojo, Maxfli Noodle etc.

When the summer/spring comes, THEN back to the Pro V1's and Nike Ones and Callaway HX Tours. Not before. Oh well, why not... I'll pick them up from the bushes and use them in the summer ;-)

Re: What balls

I beleive the titelist Pro V1 392, is a good ball you get heaps of feel and spin with very little loss of distance.
