Special Drivers - Golf Channel

A few weeks ago I saw an advertisement on the Golf Channel about these super drivers where the shafts are aerodynamic and the driver heads are inverted. The makers claim the design of the shaft cuts through wind with no torque or resistance and helps generate speed.

The ad also shows this crazy blonde guy who screams "POW!" on each of his shots. It also features Mr. 59, Al Geiberger.

What's the name of this product and has anyone had any experience with it?

Well, the club is the la jolla wood, and they sopse to cut through un-even lies etc, and also they have the plus10 driver the longest straighest driver, and still goes on the fairway and far on mis hitts, there is some person down my club with both, and they perform just as a normal driver / would will.

Funny, I was just going to mention the Ashton X-1 driver which produced the longest drive on the 2004 Re/Max Long drive competition of 426 yards. Not only that, but they are a Canadian company (Big Sheesh and LowPost - this may or may not make a difference in your choice) and have extremely low prices still.

Re: Special Drivers - Golf Channel

On the golf channel theres also the "Short Game Wizard" specially weighted and "eliminates errors near the green"...

Well last week we saw someone on the practice green with one, and he finned 1/2 the time, and just hit the others into a hedge! Not bad considering it "works as soon as you pick it up"

Re: Special Drivers - Golf Channel

I'm sure it wasn't called La Jolla wood. There were 2 drivers - one for the amateur and one for the experienced. I think it had names like Super and Xtreme.

Re: Special Drivers - Golf Channel

You're all wrong! BigSheesh, the club you are looking for is this one:

It's called THE HAMMER and there are a few models.

http://wwwgolf-technologies.com (I am not sure if this is the official website or not, but it's the only one I have. If you did a search, I'm positive you could buy them elsewhere too).

It called THE HAMMER and there are a few models.

When I say they look rediculous, I mean it BUT:
When I say THEY WORK, I MEAN IT!!!!

I could never use it, it is too off-putting but it did add about 20 yards to my driving distance. Some were 40 yards longer.

This is the same company that makes the 80* wedge I wrote about a few months ago. Check it out. I have one to f*** around with.

Re: Special Drivers - Golf Channel

Yea I have seen it too, it looks truly ridiculous. But hey as long as it works. I thought it was illegaly large though???

That short game wizard makes me chuckle. You need 15 feet of space to land it because its impossible to generate any backspin using it. It feels ok I have had a few swings of it but its pretty average to look at. It's like one of the guys said, you would be better spending the cash on a couple of lessons.

D.

Re: Special Drivers - Golf Channel

TeachingPro,

That's the one. It's called Hammer Superpro and Air Xplosion. The show was hosted by that crazy blonde Jack Hamm, who screams, "POW!" each time he hits the ball. He was pretty annoying but he sure can hit!

Are these drivers USGA legal?

Re: Special Drivers - Golf Channel

Not USGA legal as they allow air to pass through the head.

Re: Special Drivers - Golf Channel

Thought so!

Jack Hamm is one strange fellow, a nice guy but remember he's selling a product so he will sound like commercial TV! When you see him swing, I swear he could swing with a Pepsi can tied to the end of a broomstick and still knock it over 400 yards! He has HUGE power, quite scary HUGE.

Yep, except for the Airflow model they are allfully USGA legal as far as I know. Not too certain about the Airflow jobby ... suspect at best.

They do work, provided you can get to grips with the way they look. I might take might out of the equipment room I have and try it again tomorrow. 30-40 yards is sounding quite attractive to me again!

If you do buy one, please let me know who you go with it. I have the Super Pro model with regular flex shaft.

Re: Special Drivers - Golf Channel

TeachingPro,

The site you provided shows they have 3 models to choose from:

The Hammer (most expensive) IS NOT USGA Approved
Hammer SuperPro $99.99 and IS USGA Approved
Air XPlosion $99.99 and IS NOT USGA Approved

I am interested in the Hammer SuperPro but the description specifically says it's for low handicappers. The clubface is 9.5 degrees loft. That's pretty flat and if you don't already have good swing fundamentals I suspect this baby ain't doing a high handicapper no good right?
