14 clubs selection

I was watchin whats in the bag on the golf channel and was wondering how do you know when to take out a 5 wood or put in a 1,2 iron or what wedges with what bounce to use???

Also does anyone know any equipment books that give information on what equipment would be suitable for what swings & etc??????

cheers

Re: 14 clubs selection

All those decisions are variable on the type of course you are playing and the weather conditions that day. A longer course you may want to keep your 3W and 5W and drop a wedge where as a shorter course you may want to drop a wood (1, 3 or 5) and add a wedge. Windy that day? Put a lower lofted driver in your bag.

As for whether to have a 5W or a 2I, that is a personal preference for you (assuming that both clubs hit the same distance). If you are playing a tight course and you typically have trouble controlling tee shots, irons may be a better choice over woods to help the ball out of the rough.

Re: 14 clubs selection

Play with the clubs you know you use best. I used to carry a 2 iron until i realised that I hit my 4 wood well enough to use when the driver is too much and my 3 iron well enough when I want to lay up real short. So i swapped it for a utility wood which can be used when i find myself a long way from home in the semi, much easier than the 2 iron!

Same with wedges, dont carry a 64° wedge unless you play a course with lots of short trees and three inch deep rough around tiny greens. A Gap and a Sand wedge are enough.

Re: 14 clubs selection

Its all in what you can hit best.....if you play a 2i just as far as a 5w and have more control........play the 2i........it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out....always use what you can play with!

Re: 14 clubs selection

I've always carried a 1 iron because i generally hit it better and lower off the tee, for windy days. I also carry a 5W for a bit of height instead of 2I. All for whatever feels better and also which shots more often appear.
