Ping G2 - Any comments?

Hi

I have been looking for a new driver and have read reviews that the Ping G2 is the best all rounder and value for money (with the R7 Quad HT a close second only missing out on price).

I have tried the Ping and am hitting consistent, straight, 250+ drives within the first 5 balls struck (once I opened by shoulders a bit it flew!) and expect to hit it further once I get used to it and have the custom fitting.

Does anyone have any comments + or - on the Ping G2 and R7, before I spend £200 on the Ping.

Thanks

JCBDB

Re: Ping G2 - Any comments?

try the titleist 983k as well. Now that the 905 is out you can get a good deal on it. AS far as new clubs go I really like the Walter Hagen but it is pricey at 399. I love that adila shaft.

Re: Ping G2 - Any comments?

I use a Titleist 983K and it's a fine driver but a guy I play with quite often has the G2 and he smashes it 20-40 yards further than I do even though we generally hit the same iron lengths. If you've tried it and happy with it then I'd recommend buying it as it certainly seems excellent value for money.

Re: Ping G2 - Any comments?

If you can get to a ****'s or a sporting good store that has a simulator take a couple clubs with dif. degrees and have them steer you towards a club that gives you the optimum length, accuracy and launch angle. TRy some off brands too.The best driver I ever hit was a driver called the Ram Air. I wish I could find one. I smoked that driver

Most new drivers will be the same, it's the SHAFT that will determine whether the club is right for you. Especially with drivers, get custom fit so the shaft matches your swing. I would be willing to bet if you took an old persimmon head and put the perfect shaft for your swing on it that you would outhit most of the drivers you will pick off the shelf.

I love the G2. When i find where i can get my shaft put in, and get enough money i will get it. How many drivers do you have sparko?

Re: Ping G2 - Any comments?

long cuz you're hitting frozen tundra up there in iceland?
Somebody may have a better answer...without any simulator or what not if you hit your 5 iron over 180-185 you should go with a stiff-flex shaft? I think that is a rule I once heard. I would like to hear some pro's thoughts.
ed

PS i am talking about a driver shaft. I use s300's on my irons

Re: Ping G2 - Any comments?

Do any of the pros at your local courses have any experience building clubs? Ask around the pro shops as to who the best club maker in the area is.

Re: Ping G2 - Any comments?

Ping does the best customization as far as irons are concerned. Companies don t compare to how well ping has organized their fitting system

[quote=indianagolf]if you hit your 5 iron over 180-185 you should go with a stiff-flex shaft? I think that is a rule I once heard.

I have S300'S In my Iron's (RAC LT'S) I hit my 5 Iron around that distance.
I have just gone from a Stiff True Temper E170 to a Grafalloy Regular in my Titliest 983K on the recommendation from my Pro and find I get a lot more distance and feedback from this shaft. it's hard one to work out, because i hit the Irons very good Yardages, But when i have used a regular shaft in my Irons In the past, found them to be a little bit light and not so good for control and Accuracy, maybe getting fitted is the only way
