Titliest 980F Fairway Wood, help needed

I am looking at buying one of these fairway woods to match my 983k driver,
is anyone playing or tried this club?. also I have just changed from stiff (true temper E170) to Regular in my driver (Grafalloy prolite) So It makes sence to use the same shaft in my fairway wood. Has anyone used the Grafalloy prolite Regular shaft in there fairway woods? at the moment I play callaway big bertha III, 3 and 5 woods with the steel uniflex shaft.

Many Thanks

I don't use Titleist equipment but I do quite a bit of custom fitting.

The Graffaloy Prolite is a great shaft but just becuase you have it in your driver doesn't meet it is best suited to your fairway woods. Probably could be a good match ... but that's different to definately a good match.

I'd suggest you go to a store with a Titleist fitment centre and try them out first.

It's the only way to know for sure. And hey, don't forget if you buy them give them a month or 2 to "bed in" and keep on going back for tweaking if you have to ...

The titleist rep i play with hits the 904 and says they are the most forgiving and easy to hit fairway woods that he has hit in is life. If you can get the 904, do that, im sure the 980 will be great as well.

Re: Titliest 980F Fairway Wood, help needed

All the Titleist fairway woods are spot on, I still use the 975F cos to be honest they havent improved on it yet, that includes all the other manufacturers as well. I would have one as my 4 wood as well if I could have found one in the right spec.

I havent tried any of the new range yet (I dont think there are any over this side of the water for Joe Public yet) but they look good, just an evolution of the 980 basically.

You should try a steel shaft in your fairway woods. I prefer them to graphite despite losing a little bit of distance. Out of tougher lies the steel is a bit more accurate, probably due to the fact that the shaft is less torquey.

It depends on what you want them for of course.

For example the 20.5° I got has an X-100 shaft in it, granted you need a fair bit of strength to get the shaft going, but the advantage is you cant really hit it too hard which gives distance and control. This makes it a great lay up club or one for off those short par fours with small landing areas. I can move it about 210-220 off the tee, not huge but its really only about a 2 iron and its straight as you can point with the advantage of being a good rescue wood as well.

On the other hand a good graphite shaft will give you a great driving club for those days when the driver is a little off and something to get you home on the par 5's in 2.

Try the 975F they are getting cheap now and to be honest if you get one with a good shaft you wont be able to buy a better club in either the 980 or the 904, you will just pay more (although for a while the 980 was the same price as the 975, thats how good the 975 is).
