Cool What to Buy?

In need of a good set of clubs (irons). I'm looking in ebay and love the look and feel of the pings. Can get a set for about $350 to $500. I need advise though and will get something else if better and in the same price range. What do you recommend to buy for this price range??? PLEASE ADVICE. I'm an 18 hcp and making major improvements. Starting lessons pretty soon.

Re: What to Buy?

I've got a set of Maltby Logic Tech M-05 Cavity Back irons (3-LW). Very forgiving. I'll even save you some cash - and sell them to you for $200 USD shipped.

They're in great shape, and I can provide pictures if you like.

I appreciate the offer, no thanks. (Still doing my research)

Re: What to Buy?

I'm not going to recommend any clubs or even any manufacturers as it's such a personal decision. Looks are important but at the end of the day it's the quality of the shot that the club produces in you hands that matter. Take your time and try out as many as you can, make a shortlist and then try them again. Then when you think you've made your decision try them one more time before you buy. There's nothing more disheartening than investing in a set of shiny new bats only to see your game deteriorate when you use them.

Re: What to Buy?

Thanks for the advise. I will do exactly that and make sure I'm happy with my ball striking (game) as well as the look.

Re: What to Buy?

In the same boat. Been playing knock offs for the last 8 - 10 years and want to go to a new set. Was looking into more knock offs but think I'll try the name this time. My small list so far is:

Callaway X16
Mizuno mx23
Taylor made rac ( os or ht )

Hit the x18's last week and wasn't disappointed ( have heard from quite a few that there isn't much difference between the 18's or 16's ).

Don't know much about the Mizunos but they look nice. Someone told me to check into the Armour's 845 silver combo or the new Morph's?

I'm only about a 16 handi and don't get out but maybe twice a week during the warm weather month's, so I will start hitting what I can and start watching Ebay.

Re: What to Buy?

This forum stopped me from jumping on a fast purchase that I could of regretted in the future. Now I'm doing my research as if I was buying a house or a boat. So far, I like the Callaway 18 (good point, 18 vs 16, I'll try the 16 and compare) and I also like the Ping I3 O-size.

Good luck and happy hunting!!!

Re: What to Buy?

Surely buying a new set of clubs is much more important than a house or a boat!

Cool Re: What to Buy?

A good set is the set you feel most comfortable swinging with an those you feel best striking the ball with. Pings are wonderful clubs. I've got 10 year old Ping isi copper heads. Love 'em. If you are an 18 you may care to consider looking at one of the most classic designs ever produced and still for sale. The Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scotts. Fantastic sticks and the biggest bargin I've ever seen on the internet. You can even buy them and have them custom tweaked by a professional club guy to fit your particualr swing.

Best of Luck on whatever you end up selecting.

Do not know what kind of Pings you are looking for, but I have a set of Ping Eye2 Black Dots, 3-9 plus sand wedge that I will take 225.00 for.

I would say a 7.5 or 8 out of a 10. New golf Pride grips and the original Light shafts. Bands still intact.

Except for needing a lawyer, there's certainly as much research put into it!
