Taylormade 540XD Fairway wood

Anyone remember these

Yesterday I purchased a Taylormade 540XD Fairway 3 wood, I must have missed this wood during its launch, I simply cannot remember ever seen one before.

Quite a small head and very shallow, looks and feels agreat club thats why I decided to buy it, brand new in a sale for £70.00.

Can anyone remember this wood??????????

Re: Taylormade 540XD Fairway wood

Yeah I remember it. It came out bout 2 years ago i think. They're the same as the R500 series except the XD stands for extra distance. My coach still uses the R580XD driver. they came out just before the r7.

Where did you get it for that price. What shaft and loft combos are available.

Re: Taylormade 540XD Fairway wood

I played in a society day with a 2 handicapper at the start of last year who raved about this club, never touched his driver all day and was still hitting 250-260 from the tee, he didnt even have the decency to look like he would miss a fairway! The same guy was similarly raving about the V-Steel 3 wood last September!

I played again with him during the summer and he is now Clevelands greatest fan! Changes his bats more than some folk change their underwear!

He could probably be just as effective with a matchbox on some garden cane!!

Re: Taylormade 540XD Fairway wood

I just bought the 5 wood last week for €150 such a nice club.
Super easy to hit and keep straight.
I had a 3 with a stiff shaft but brought it back before I used it
1) no need for a 3 wood, Id get more use out of the 5 (from rough etc)
2) regular shaft seems to suit my swing with my woods.

Re: Taylormade 540XD Fairway wood

Hi Craig,

I got it from a JJB sports store, they also had the old 3 wood V steel for £80.00 and better still the R580 drivers for £100.00 there was a couple of Callaways at the same price too.

There wasn't a great choice, I was lucky that they had a Stiff shaft with a firm tip exactly the same as shaft my driver.

I don't normally shop there, I was looking for a set of ladies irons for my son who is only 10, I buy them cheap and cut a few inches of them all and re-grip them, until he grows enough..................then I suspect I'm in for a major spend.........Oh NO.

Hi Ian,

For your 10 year old, why not buy some shafts in the 'new' LL flex?

It's even softer than a Ladies flex - it might help.

Re: Taylormade 540XD Fairway wood

Thanks Lowpost,

Good idea however he may need a mens regular flex soon, he has played since he was 5 and now has a h/capp of 28 off the mens tees. Thats only because he drives about 170-190 and takes three to a few greens and two putts.

send me your personal e-mail and I will send you his swing for you comments.

Ian.
