New Iron Sets?

Those SMT durometers are the bomb. I've got some black insert ones, and have only had one-hop-and-stop on my best swings... I can put a bad swing on the ball with these puppies, and get one hop. A good swing produces check back to ~2" past the ball mark.

With that review I will be ordering some tomorrow.

My swing produces a ridiculous amount of backspin.
I have to fling most of my shots beyond the pin and hope they hit the hole on the way back.

Don't know whether to order black or green though.

The only difference between black and green is 10% of vibration damping. The black does 14% and the green does 4%.

The black feels fine to me.

I like to feel the ball run up the grooves of the club so it looks like it will be the green for me.

That aside ,I wish I had gone for custom component clubs years ago.
I would have saved a fortune.

I still use some Callaway ,and swear by the two ball putter.

I've never holed so many 8 footers in my life.

You wont get anything from a custom clubmaker for $300. A set of heads from golfsmith will set you back maybe $150 unless you go for last years model, then if you want a good quality shaft you are looking at another £70 then maybe $40 for a decent set of grips then theres the charge for putting them together (no idea, $10 a club??) and of course 20% profit and sales tax (if you pay it). I looked at making myself a set of Snake Eyes 600B's last year. numbers wise i worked it out to about £300 then of course I found out that I cant get the stuff myself cos I dont have an account with them so I have to go through a clubmaker, none of whom will do it unless they are making them up for you. Then of course the prices are before tax and profit. Ended up being more like £500 for which I could have got a set of custom fitted OEM irons with loads of warranty and a better resale value. Bear in mind this is in Europe where we cant walk into a Golfsmith store and take stuff off the shelves and to the cashier.

Which brings me to my next point, is your game ever going to get better, if so then custom fit isnt for you just yet. Once you have made as much progress as you feel you can with tuition and hard work (there are no shortcuts to a better game, dammit, it always seems to need you to do a bit of work yourself) then you are ready to get your clubs matched to your swing.

Take your $$$ and get the very best second hand set you can find from one of the premium manufacturers (Titleist, Mizuno, Taylor Made, Ping) dont be afraid to ask for a couple of clubs out the set and a bucket of balls to see if they suit you.

As for Nike vs Cleveland, no contest, go for the Cleves, Nike is the Disney of Golf, and about as good at making golf clubs as Disney is right now.

Well I have actually found a clubmaker/clubfitter about 20 minutes from my work...I called and he said it would cost 50.00 to get fitted with a launch monitor and everything.... He makes the Nakashima Golf Clubs...Has anyone ever had any experience with Nakashima Golf Clubs...to be exact the NX-5 Irons? Anyone know the price or the quality or even played with these irons?

Nak are as good as it gets quality wise but they are expensive.

You don't need 14 clubs to play golf though, so don't be afraid to ask for a half set which suits your budget and you can add to it later.

Tell him your budget and I'm sure he will find you clubs at a cost to suit. If he tries the hard sell and demands you buy clubs you can't afford then just find someone else.

They are that good huh...400.00 for a full set of Iron, the NX-5 fitted and everything...is that good?

Just found your prior thread and commented on that. Good decision about the new set, I think you would be more happy. BUT, why not try a set that is built to conform to you body, that is, have the length adjustment also? You should check out some of the clone clubs and have them custom built for you and stay well within you budget at the same time. Take a look at www.TheAceofClubs.com

Well I decided to change my mind AGAIN, lol...golf for a newbie is very difficult...I decided to get my irons reshafted and have the lie/loft changed and just got them back today...will see how I like them this weekend...look great at least

I am curious to find out how you like the 6.0 Rifles. They are pretty stiff. I used those for my irons and I have to be playing frequently and feeling pretty loose or they give me a bit of a hard time. Good Luck.

What kind of distance do you get with your 5 iron? 7 iron? What do you pull from 150 yards?
