Arrow Callaway X18 Pro or Big Bertha

I am at the final stage of deciding a set of new irons for me and was inclined towards X-18 Pro with Royal Precision Tour Flighted Rifle Shafts (Flex 5.0). On comparing the irons I noticed that Big Bertha is more forgiving than the X-18 Pro. What is your opinion disrespect of high / mid / low handicap person?

I am of the opinion that usage of the better equipment will always be beneficial in improving the game.

Your comments and suggestions in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Re: Callaway X18 Pro or Big Bertha

you may already know X18 has less offset than Big Bertha which means require a more 'proper' timing at impact. So i think it all comes down to your swing, if your swing is pretty reliable and can hit the ball straight or even draw a bit, then X18 is better for you. But if you are slicing most of the time, probrably better stick with the BB.

if you are thinking to use the irons to train yourself to get better swing, that to me may not be the best idea.. lessons from a golf pro should be the best way to do that.

Re: Callaway X18 Pro or Big Bertha

I would say if you can find a custom fitter that will put you together a set of clubs matched to your swing then go for that over the Callaways.

It will cost you less money and you will have equipment suited to your swing.

I have tried all the big brands in my time (and I've got to admit ,Callaway were good) but you can't beat a good independent supplier.
They will always go that little bit further for you and their clubs are every bit as good (probably better) than any of the big names.

Re: Callaway X18 Pro or Big Bertha

Well I am very new to golf as well (only been playing 8 months) and I know this was a big step for me in choosing Irons as I had been previously playing with a second hand set of pings.
I got great advice from my pro who suggested that I swing around 8 different makes in simulator and reviewing the results with him narrowing it down to 2 (callaway x18 pro or taylor made RAC OS) It was then down to personal choice which for me was the X18 pro from callaway as it felt very comfortable and easier to swing.
However since having these clubs I have finally managed to get my handicap of 28 down to 25 which I was over the moon.

My next big step is purchasing a driver in which I will do the same method
1) Talk to my pro
2) Practice swings with various drivers and hit balls in a simulator
3) Once down to 2 choose the one which I enjoy swinging
Hope it helps you to choose
Cheers
Mark
