changing whats in the bag a bit? some help chosing please

ok currently i have in the bag:

ping g5 driver in 9 degree with stiff nv65 shaft
taylormade vsteel 5 wood with regular graphite shaft
nike pro combo irons 3-pw with steel shafts
nike 52 deg wedge
cleveland 588 56 deg wedge
taylormade tp 58 deg wedge
odessey 2 ball dfx putter

my game is really clicking into place at the moment and im playing really well, hitting an average drive of about 290. My irons are going very well and im hitting a 7 iron about 160 yards. My nike 52 deg wedge is good but i dont use it enough as it doesnt spin much. The cleveland i just dont use as the 58 degree goes about the same distance for some reason. The putter is just much too chunky for my linking now. I am thinking of getting rid of the 5 wood, because i dont need it much on my course and the sahfts too flexy, im getting rid of the nike as it doesnt spin enough and the cleveland as i dont use it. The putter is getting replaced as i dont like it.

i live in the uk and am 17 so not mega wealthy but am wandering what o should get, i know i want a 3 wood and am thinking of getting a 52 degree wedge that i get on with more. What do you guys think i should do with my other club choice to make it 14 clubs, maybe a rescue. i have never used them but hear good things. what do you think.

The best thing you can do is test out what you think you would like and compare a few different models of similar types of clubs. You will want something that fills the gaps between the clubs you are keeping. Fall is usually the best time to buy as most places are trying to clear out this year's models to get ready for the new Spring line. As said on here many times: try, try, try buy.

thanks for your fast reply gord. In my summer holidays of college i play for like 6 weeks and am now playing evry weekend so cant wait till the sales . i hear ebays pretty cheap but am worried about copies. do you think i should try some out at a shop and but on there?

Definitely try as many as you can where ever you get the chance. As for buying on Ebay, there is rarely a concern for imitations. The problem with eBayis the fact that the club you buy rarely matches up to what you demo'ed. Therefor, if you are short on funds I recommend only buying something you have had a chance to hit a few balls with. Another avenue you can explore is visit a club maker and get them to custom build a component club. That way, the shaft flex will work best for your swing, you have a brand new club and it costs about 1/2 of what an OEM would be sold at.

where can i get hold of one of these club makers in the uk and does any one have any links.

Talk to the guys in the proshop at the course you play at. They will let you know who builds clubs well.

for one you have 15 clubs in your bag?! ha, anyway i think pro combo irons are junk and personally dont like any nike iron. I'm partial to the vokey wedges and i love my odessey 2 dfx putter. I would get stiff shafts in all your woods if i was you also.

oh i thought i seen 3 wood also, this forum kinda sucks you cant read the original post when you reply.

For What it's worth catagorey:

1. I would try to get rid of your wedges and get a matched set, (might even not be that much extra if you can get a nice price for yours) that should do away with distance issues, if not see if you can get someone to bend your 56 wedge open some to get seperation between your 58.

2. Hybrids I think depend a little on your swing speed and personal preference. If you are hitting your 3 and 4 solid it's not necessary. But a hybrid is easier to hit and will be higher, and stop quicker.

3. If your 5 wood is to flexy maybe get rid of it, but keep in mind that just because your home course does not have a real need for it, if you plan to play other courses it might not be all bad to keep a otherwise useable club around to throw in the bag if needed. An example was this years Masters there was a ton of pro's for the first time took out their 2 an 3 irons out and threw in hybrids and 5 woods due to the smale hard greens.

There also seem to be a lot of the pro's who depending on wind switch off from a hybrid/5 wood and their 2 and 3 irons.

Hey Ashley, I've bought a few things on ebay to fill in the gaps in my golf bag. I've found a store on there called MKC Golf. Everything I've bought from them is perfect and exactly as they describe it. I've had absolutely no problem with them and they have very fast shipping.

They sell both new and used. I've dealt with them a few times and the products are always as described, and they have a very detailed description page for products.

Asdhley, the best advise I can give in your situation and young age is to start using components and get into putting your own clubs together, it's not that hard and will give you a much better understanding of clubs. For the price of a name brand driver, you can put a whole set of component clubs together. This will allow you to experiment a little without breaking the bank. The old days of cheap knockoff in components are pretty much over, there are some very good quality stuff out there. I myself use a set of Maltby irons and woods, spec and put together myself, I regrip my clubs twice a year. Website is www.golfworks.com, where I got my clubs, I use them almost exclusively, because I like thier products, but there are many other fine component sellers. Golfworks sells everything you need, including how too books. Believe me there is nothing like cracking a beautiful drive from a driver you put together, makes it that much sweeter.

I also need some help finding some clubs. First off does anybody know any good putters for under 100$? I like the odyssey two ball and three ball putters, if there are any used ones of those for under 100$. Also a good wedge for under 50$ (used or new). Any suggestions or links would be great.
