club lengthening

I am 6ft 5 inches tall and seem to struggle with consistency. I have a standard set of irons but find it difficult not to get steep on my swing plane resulting in many fat shots. Friends have said i tend to stoop over the ball. I am considering having my taylor made RAC steel clubs lengthened by 1 inch but wonder how much difference this would make. I would be grateful for any advice. Thanks, John

Post Re: club lengthening

Hey John,

I just bought a set of Ping i3's and got them 1/2 inch longer than standard and a 2 degree upright lie. I am hitting them beautiful and a full iron longer than my last set(I have gained easy 15 yards per club). I am 6'3'' and I was measured to have these specs in my irons. I had standard shafts before. I recommend that you get yourself fitted. On the ping website they have a fitting system on line which will give u a good idea. Give it a look. Good luck. Hope this helps.

Re: club lengthening

A friend of mine who is 6ft 5 had some clubs custom made and his were 3/4 inch longer (I can't remember what upright angle he had too). It made a big difference in his game as it cut out his tendency to top the ball when he straightened up mid-swing and also made him more consistant.

You should really be properly measured as it's not only your height but also the length of your arms that make the difference.
