slightly heavy clubs

I am a 26 handicapper and am 14. I haverecently bought some mens siza clubs. The irons felt a bit heavy but this was becaue the clubs had a great percentage of weight at the bottom of the club and is supposed to make it easier to get the ball in the air. I am 5ft 7inches tall (170cm) and have been hooking and toping the ball reslting in very bad rounds. What may i be doing wrong with the heavy feeling in the clubs and how can I accomidate for it and start hitting the ball cleanly.
