choosing a wedge

I broke my PW. I have a 58* sand wedge. I was thinking of replacing my 48* with a 50*, then adding a 54* in the future as I improve. This would give me 50, 54, 58. Sound reasonable?
The problem lies with when I replace my starter set which will most likely come with a 48* PW. Then I'd have a 48 AND a 50. No point in that. Therefore, I see 3 options: get a used replacement 48, knowing that it will be replaced in a year, get a good 50 that will complete the set listed above and know that I will eventually have 2 that are very close, or, live w/o a club in the 48-50 range and get 52* and wait until the new set to then have 48, 52, 58.
I'm still too new to make an informed decision on this. The only "good" club I have is my 58* X-Tour Callaway that I got for Father's day. I LOVE it and plan to eventually have all my wedges be of this type.

What about just fixing the PW. (I assuming you broke the shaft....what else is there to break? ) Are you US or UK? Steel or graphite? In the US, twenty bucks at a local shop, if your lucky....or am I out of touch?

2 problems with that. First, it was a very inexpensive set from Costco, and $20 hardly seems worth it ($270 for all including the bag). Second, not knowing I could repair, it has already been taken to the bin. OOOPS!!
Since my short game is my biggest of many weaknesses, my PW is argueably my most important club. Especially when I see that most of my strokes, (and errors) happen <100yards but my putting average is 2.13. I good club doesn't make a golfer, but I believe that poor equipment will hamper my development.
Off to the store that has a "gently used" bin.

Wait for the new set. Just hit knockdown 9 irons until then.

I came to the same conclusion as well. I figure I'll work on control with my 9. I picked up a 52* Gap wedge because it is halfway between my SW and the PW that will come with the new set. Plus, it was $12.99 US in the used bin, and feels great. In a few minutes, I was plinking balls into the basket in the back yard.
