Admit it ... you sit at home at night and gently stroke your clubheads. (I do with my MP-60s).

Damn, those irons are sexy!

Re: What Irons?

Looks a lot like the cleveland cg2, don't they?

I still prefer the look of the Mizunos ...

Re: What Irons?

Ok, problem.

took the irons down the range to hit a 100 balls...they fly far too high! I was told at the custom fitting centre that the shaft was low launch although the S300 was launching the ball higher than my old massive cavity backed irons and I considered them to launch it far too high!!!! I checked the Mizuno website and according to the shaft spec the S300 is a high launch! I think I should have either the S400 or possibly even the X100's! Gonna contact the pro I ordered them thru tomorrow and discuss sending them back! I hope this is ok!!!!

Other than that they felt amazing!

Before you return them:

What were you hitting before (make, model) and what are you hitting now?

Re: What Irons?

Was hitting John Letters t5's with standard regular true temper shafts and I'm now hitting Mizuno MP67 with S300 Dynamic Gold shaft.

According to the Mizuno website the S300's are the high launch and the low launch are the S400 and X100's. The pro who custom fitted me at Mizuno said he cudn't give me a lower launch without going for the X100's so I think he must have meant to specify the S400's.

Re: What Irons?

If the MP67 lofts are weaker, they'll hit higher (iron for iron).

Ask for FST Pro White shafts. They're crazy tip stiff.

Re: What Irons?

You should double check your info or look at another source. I don’t think TT DG S300 are considered "high launch" by any means. X100 or S400 may be even lower, but the S300 is considered to have amongst the lowest of ball flight. The S400 is slightly heavier than the S300, with the same flex and the X100 is a stiffer flex but slightly lighter. I can’t imagine a huge change in ball flight with either.

Re: What Irons?

Spoke to the club pro who I ordered them through and he couldn't care less! He said a whole load of things just to basically get rid of me! Amongst the fantastic customer service he said:
"...Just put the ball back in your stance..."

"...we could de loft the heads.."

"to reshaft them is crazy!"

"Your hitting them down the range so they're gonna fly higher and your old clubs have got stronger lofts (without ever seeing them) and your just panicing"

On the mizuno website it says that S300 are the high launch, the S400 and X100 are low launch. If I had the S400's and they were launching it high then I obviously have a steep angle of attack but the fact that I'm hitiing what Mizuno says is high launch shafts it tells me to look at the S400's!

Even if I can't return them I would rather pay the £200 n get them all reshafted with S400's! Its my club pros loss as Iv still got a new driver and 3 wood and possibly a putter to order this month and I'm no longer gonna go through him! Gonna speak to my coach on monday about what the options are.

Re: What Irons?

Before you go off the deep end, PLEASE, check some other sources and get some other opinions. IMO, the Muzuno site is not giving an accurate description of ball flights with the DG shafts. Seriously, they say the R300 shaft has a LOW ball flight but the S300 has a HIGH ball flight???? Something’s fishy. (By the way, the Muzuno site is giving ball FLIGHT not ball LAUNCH. There is a difference.)

True Temper says that all DG shafts have a low ball flight, which makes sense because they all have a very firm tip and mid section with a softer butt section.....the whole line. IMO, there might be a very subtle difference in ball flight because the S400 is 2% heavier (3 grams) than the S300, and thus ever so slightly stiffer...but I doubt it.

Re: What Irons?

Craig:

Shaft flex has more to do with feel and distance than it does with ballflight.

Loft and center of gravity have more to do with how high you hit it than the shaft does.

You need to get both sets measured, and find out which set has the stronger lofts. The stronger lofts will be the lower ballflight. The stiffer shafts will be the lower ballflight.

This tells me that your pro was not blowing smoke, but giving it to you straight.

Re: What Irons?

kbp, having played 2nite they weren't as bad as first feared but I still feel the ball flight is a bit too high. Maybe it's just my swing that puts a high ball flight on my shots but I don't want to start losing yardages on my irons.

I've looked around a lot and what I found weird was that the Mizuno website was the only 1 which said S300's were high trajectory shafts. True Temper website, golfsmith and a couple of others said S300's were low trajectory.

I respect what the Mizuno custom fitter specified but I'm sure everyones initial reaction to a new set of irons going too high would be the same, especially when the Mizuno website says what it did. Im still gona speak to my coach to see what his opinion is but I'm more annoyed at my club pro's attitude to my concern, after all paying £600 u want to make sure its money not wasted....

Re: What Irons?

Thanks lowpost and kbp, my mind is a bit more at ease, although what are my options if these irons are giving me a too high ball flight.

I'm just annoyed at the way the pro spoke to me. He may have been right with a few points but to suggest moving the ball back in my stance is a joke as well as his tone and embarassing me in front of fellow members. Especially when hes not my coach, and never seen me swing. To move the ball back can lead to other swing problems and he never wanted to resolve my concern. He's got his money so his service ceases...

I was very happy with the Mizuno service but this whole concern stemmed from the Mizuno website which I then thought meant the club fitter had specified the S300's instead of the S400's.
