Re: Illegal Drivers

If you head to The R&A Homepage, search for the equipment list, and the non-conforming and conforming drivers list. IIRC, the conforming drivers that will be non in 08 are noted.

Exclamation Re: Illegal Drivers

Thanks Lowpost got it and amazed at the number of clubs that will not conform it runs into hundreds, how on earth do they expect to enforce it. There must be thousands of golfers effected . Thanks again for the info.

Re: Illegal Drivers

You're welcome.

It's no different than in the US, where the USGA is changing the ruling on grooves. Complete and utter BS if you ask me. The study they spent a whack of money on showed that grooves made a difference out of rough with URETHANE COVERED BALLS ONLY. If the cover wasn't urethane, there was no appreciable spin difference. The common sense solution is to ban urethane balls on Tour. We already have the USGA solution.

My question is when the R&A will hop on board (hopefully not at all). As a Canadian, I'm not governed by the USGA, but rather the R&A through the RCGA. In other words, I could have been playing a 'hot' driver, with no issues until next year.

I swear that the USGA is in bed with equipment manufacturers. "Hey, we know that changing the ball would be the key. But equipment sales are dwindling. So we'll limit how big driver heads can be. Then we'll limit their spring-like effect (and create a test that you cannot question or appeal to list your head as conforming or not). Now we'll change the types of grooves that clubs can have.

Next, I can't wait to see where every putter must be no longer than 36", and the head cannot weigh more than 330g, and where they must all be blade shaped (too much forgiveness in mallets - it makes putting too easy).

Then we'll see limits on shafts, and perhaps even grips.

But change the balls? No way. The ball doesn't make that much difference. Just ask Dick Rugge at the USGA.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.

I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.

For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
