Clubs in the Bag options

I bought a 13* Sonartec SS2.5 3+ wood (Fujikura Tour Platform) and a 17* Titleist 904F 4 wood (Aldila Green NV85). I also have a 16* Taylormade Rescue which plays like a low launching 4 wood as it has an extra stiff Fujikura TP shaft, while the 17* Titleist launches it high and soft. The Sonartec launches it low due to the loft and shaft.

I hit them the following distances (all carry)
3+ wood 240 yards
4 wood 220 yards
16* Rescue 220 yards
3 iron 200 yards

My question(s) is should I look into getting myself a 15* 3 wood with a mid launch shaft for 230 yard shots to give myslef options depending on the course and conditions or is there no real point? I currently use the 4 wood in the bag but if its windy etc I use the rescue.

Also could someone tell me the disadvantage of using a composite head?

I like having options when I'm on a course.

However, it's also my theory that once you get 200+ yards out, you're just hoping to hit the green, you're not pinseeking. So choke down on the Sonartec to get 230.

Because we all know that just because it says 230 on the card, doesn't mean you'll be at 230 from the tee.

But, I'm all for new clubs. Get that 15°!

I guess it depends upon the course you usually play and how often you find yourself at an akward distance. I personally would rather carry a extra wedge then have a 3+, 3 and a 4 wood all in the bag. On the other hand if your just looking to have a few options to stick into the bag depending on the course and the wind ....

Its not to have 2 3 woods in the bag but instead my idea is to have more than just 14 clubs so as to adjust my bag setup depending on wind, course layout, weather etc.

I have that option with my 4 wood/hybrid as they hit the same distance but the 4 wood launches it high and soft while the hybrid hits it low and running. I change (for my course) depending what tees we are playing from and what the wind is doing and I was wondering if it would be an idea to have the same option with my 3 wood.

The hybrid and the Sonartec are perfect goto clubs off the tee but if I get the 15* will I end up just having 2 clubs that are really similar playing characteristics and not know when to use which...I don't like choice cos I cant decide!LOL

I am also looking into getting another wedge as I have a 47*, 53* and 60* all low bounce so was looking to get a 56* high bounce for wet conditions and depending on the course etc again. Have narrowed my choice down to Titleist Vokey Oil Can Spin Milled, Mizuno MP-R or Cleveland 588 DSG RTG+. All my other wedges are Cleveland 588's. Any bad things about the Sole grind on both the Cleveland and the Mizuno?

FWIW, I played a 'different' style of golf today. Just a quick 9 holes, but applied a new theory.

I sat down with a scorecard, and figured out what to play off the tee to give myself a decent shot at the green. My course is a par 36 and I set up my play to give myself a 37 ideally (intentionally taking 5 strokes on a par 4).

It worked out well - shooting 6 over with a penalty stroke and a double bogey. My course is relatively short... I hit driver once (a 415 yard par 4), then hit nothing longer than a 4 iron off the tee. Our par 5 was playing 470, so I played 6 iron (yanked into the rough), 8 iron, 9 iron to the green.

The point is this: While I carried a 3 and 5 wood (and 3 iron) I didn't hit them at all - or need them for this course. The hole I played for 5 is a short par 4 that's kind of tight off the tee with lateral hazard all up the right side and tall trees on the left (with a creek 220 yards out). I played 5 iron, pushed a wedge into the lat hazard (dummy!), stuck an 8 iron on, and two putted.

All this to say that while I don't need more fairway woods here, I do need them at longer courses.

As for the wedges, if you're comfortable with the 588's, then I'd get another one like it. I'm a believer in playing matched wedges when you can.
