Out of warranty repair on Sky Caddie

I've been really happy with my SG2. Had it since 02-06 and it has worked flawlessly. However, I turned it on Saturday for a round and could not get it to show any yardages. It seems it is not taking the Satellite info and making it's calculations.

I've heard of out of warranty costs as high as 300.00. Anyone have any experiences to share here? It seems these units are prone to this kind of failure quite often and mostly out of warranty.

Re: Out of warranty repair on Sky Caddie

I would try to reset it. Take the batteries out and put them back in again. You may have to reload the firmware. You might be able to download it off of their website.

I have a Garmin. I can do everything with it that the skycaddie does and you can use it for driving if you get the maps. I had a very similar situation with mine (Garmin). I called them and EVEN THOUGHT it was OUT OF WARRANTY, they fixed it for me free. I was so pleased with them I bought some of their stock and made $$$ on it. THey are a great company

Re: Out of warranty repair on Sky Caddie

I checked their website for you. The have a procedure to reset your skycaddie to the original factory settings. That might fix it.

Here is the procedure:

Q: Resetting factory settings:
Answer:
  1. Turn on your SkyCaddie and allow it to bring up your course
  2. Press Menu.
  3. Select "Advnaced" by scrolling through Menu options.
  4. Select "Yes" to "Use Advanced Menu”
  5. Scroll to and select "Preferences"
  6. Scroll to and select "Defaults"
  7. Select "OK" to "Restore Default Factory Settings and Restart"
  8. Turn off the SkyCaddie, and then turn it back on to apply the changes
Hope it helps,

If they won't fix it and want you to replace it, just buy a Garmin. They are cheaper and more useful

Re: Out of warranty repair on Sky Caddie

That's a soft reset. See if there's a little hole on the back into which you can push a pin or a needle to do a hard reset...
