Arthritic finger I have developed arthritis in the middle finger of my right hand and have trouble bending it around the shaft of my clubs without severe pain. Does anyone out there have some good advice for me other than take pain killers in advance (which don't seem to help)? My game has gone to hell. It's amazing how much one finger can affect your game.

Re: Arthritic finger First thought that comes to mind, can you extend it and the index finger straight down the shaft without pain? So wrap all the other fingers (pinky and ring) around, but let the middle and index (as silly as that sounds) go straight. Last edited by GregJWillis; 03-01-2008 at 09:03 PM.

Re: Arthritic finger There are arthritic grips out there, or you may try going to oversize. The other option may be a topical anti-inflammatory; put it right on the knuckle. (Versus systemic like advil or ibuprofen).

Try a double overlapping grip like Furyk. I'd developed callous on the left index and right ring finger. Actually helped get the shaft leaning more froward in the DS. ![]() |

Re: Arthritic finger Thanks for the advice guys. I have played with my middle finger straight down the shaft to try and get it out of the action. Unfortunately, the penalty is that my grip becomes a little sloppy and all sort of bad things start happening. I may try the double overlapping grip next time out. Maybe I will get a little more stability than taking the finger out of the action altogether. I will definitely look into larger grips even though my hands are on the small side (I take a medium glove).

Re: Arthritic finger While the larger grips go against a conventional idea for your set, a conventional idea also bases itself on the idea that you can form a conventional grip ![]() In this case, a larger grip will allow you more gripping contact without having to close your hand as much, helping to alleviate some of that arthritis pain.
