Perform better by myself than when playing w/others

I know, the subject sounds a bit "racy." However, when I play a round alone, I perform much better than when I play a round w/others. Any suggestions to overcome this discrepancy will be much appreciated.

I think many people are like this.. When I play socially or by myself i can shoot close too par. When I play in comp I shoot from 4-12over. When ever I play well I am not thinking about anything, Im just swinging normaly and thinking about the shot thats infront of me, rather than the next shot I may have too hit.

That's it. I am this way, I don't relax, I'm too tense.

Nervous, I agree with, but it's because I want to improve continually. I am way past the stage where I want to show off.

CB44,

There is a way to help yourself here....................

When you play with others you must be social, however when you near your ball and prepare for your shot you don't............the simple solution is to imagine there is a line about six paces behind your ball.

Once you cross this line you must be in anti-social mode with a selfish attitude to your own game, once you play your shot you can chat again.

Sounds daft but it works for sure.

Hope this helps

Ian.

Re: Perform better by myself than when playing w/others

Hi,

I score better alone :-)
When playing alone I get a realized flow. Things just are working - and if I am playing bad - I just stop counting. I have played alone on a par 3 course.

I feel that I perform better when playing with some one else. I concentrate more, but my score is worse. Also keeping the score is more exact, when playing with a partner.

I just have learned not to talk so much during a round. I think that it will help my game as well other players. Talking is rational (left side of the brain) and dreaming about good shots would be more useful.

I know I am trying to show off when playing with anybody - even a casual viewer passes by and I will start looking for my "power shot". And I know that it is silly, but I can't help it:-)

Hannu

Re: Perform better by myself than when playing w/others

Well Gents,

Interesting thread that can be relative to life in general (female's perspective).

I love to play golf with mates and stir each other in the process, for eg, bet you can't do this or that putt is quite slick and so on.

My advice is start putting some pressure on yourself and your game, play with a few mates and fling a bit of mud so to speak.

Consider playing with better golfers. I find that better the golfer I play with, the better my golf is.

Cheers
