Re: impact shots

Hi Wiko,

Best way to start is with a few chip shots, practice hitting down as if trying to bury the ball in the turf.

you will notice a better contact from doing this, then build up to fuller shots

Hope this helps

Ian.

Re: impact shots

Try setting up at address with your hands ahead and the ball about middle of stance. There is more but this should have you hitting the ball first then turf. It's surprisingly easy. Let me know how this works and I will give you more.

Re: impact shots

Draw a line in the grass and setup with a mid iron and the line midway between your feet. Try to swing with a steady tempo and strike the ground just after the line.

To be successful you should ensure your arms stay extended, chicken winging and tensing the arm muscles will shorten your swing arc. Make sure you rotate fully through impact with your head behind the ball, this will lower your swing arc so that you contact the ground. Dont slide into the ball.

A drill you can use is to place a tee in the ground a few inches in-front of the ball, have the tee stuck up around half an inch then ensure you hit the tee out after striking the ball.

Nail-It has some good drills to teach you how to strike the ball well, it is a great book.

Good luck.

+1 on this.
I am terrible for shortening my arms and thus sweeping the ball all the time. Works great for the woods...not so hot on the irons

Re: impact shots

Same as ever...consistently inconsistent!

Shot a 70 in the second round of the captains prize last week...with 41 putts.
I still have the same putter so Im proud of my ability to not break it...thats about it!

Working on better weight transfer and extending my arms through the shot at the moment...(well that and trusting my natural putting stroke and trying to not calculate it into the hole...)

How 'bout you?

Well done on the 70, that's a great round .

I,m good, retired early last year and playing golf 3 or 4 times most weeks. Playing regularly really helps, especially with putting and the short game, I manage to get around in something like 28/30 putts these days. Overall I am playing well and enjoying it.

I seem to have got the bunker yips though and cannot see what is going wrong, I always hit out so well but something has crept in that is infuriating me . I have booked a session with the club pro to sort it out
