| Where did my swing go?? I am a 8 hdcp player who over the past few years has had spats of completely losing my swing. My fault if coming over the top. It gets so bad that I start shanking everyhting from wedges to 3 irons and all my shots are sliced. I try everything I can from checking my setup to trying to swing inside however I cannot seem to fix the problem or diagnose the cause. I really would like to fix this problem as its just driving(no pun intended) me kookoo. Any ideas? |

| Re: Where did my swing go?? There is just not enough info here to help you where we can pinpoint any specific fixes...it will all be shots in the dark. So here's mine. Ready....aim: Make sure your toe of the club is pointing straight up the swing plane line on the takeaway. This will require your arms to rotate along with your torso. This action inhibits your left (leading) arm from breaking around your body that causes the over the top move. You are now restricted to a full shoulder turn and just enough arm raise to get the club to the top. From the top, practice keeping the toe still up on the plane line as long as you can...all the way into impact, but not quite, because the last move has to be the leading arm re-rotating square because the hips, torso and shoulders have fully fired (in the sequence) into impact. Try the pumping drill where all you do is pump your arms into pre-impact with the toe still up, and this imitates the lag needed, trains the hands to stay in the correct cocked position and allows the final release into the ball to have all the power you need from the little amount of takeaway you have now. Hope it's not too dark in here.

| Re: Where did my swing go?? OTT swings are caused where the club is thrown outside the swing plane coming down. Shanks are created through a substantial difference between the swing path and direction of the clubface, this can be created with an out-to-in or in-to-out swing. I would suggest the place to start with both these problems is to work on maintaining your spine angle, reducing sway and keeping your arms turning connected with your chest. |
