| Re: Putting Actually Prowlsta, I struggle with the exact same problem. My natural tendency is to hit the putt. I take the putter back to the same place and accelerate (or decelerate) to compensate for distance. I, too, realize that the problem this creates is when we're in a pressure situation and the adrenaline kicks in, our distance control is now theoretically shot. The only way to defeat this is to practice 'pendulum putting'. This involves making sure (ie a concious effort) that the follow through is longer than the backswing. The way I've accomplished this is to take a 4' 2x4 and mark it every 6" from center with a different colour (so 6" is red, 12" is blue, 18" is green, and 24" is black). Then I work on my pendulum taking the putter back to 6", and making sure I accelerate through fully until the other 6" mark. Then do the same for 12", 18", etc. Feel the pendulum work - as the swing gets bigger, the pendulum motion actually makes it easier to get your follow through the same length (more potential energy).
