Cabin fever

Rain, rain, rain. The driving range will soon be "mats only" , and I already think thats been one of my bigest faults, spending most of my time on a plastic grass mat hitting yellow foam balls. I saw an earlier thread for something called qmotion (?) and want to hear some more feedback on this. I've seen the ball on a stand thing at wallmart, but it looked like the ball was suspended above the mat and wouldn't give a good feel for hitting a ball on the ground where it would be any time other than t'd up.
Spent this am at the driving range, trying to remember about six things I need to do all at the same time and making myself miserable. Then I remembered that I'm susposed to be enjoying this thing called golf. Hit the last ten balls or so just thinking about tempo and watching the ball go a little better than the first thirty had. I think I need to have about one or two or at most three things to think about while I'm swinging. Can somebody give me three basic things to keep in the back of mind when I swing?

Just think of one thing. whether it is squaring your hands at impact, keeping the triangle throught takeaway.

Don't worry about mats. I learnt to hit off mats, and still get pretty good contact on the ball off the ground.

dont buy that thing u see at wal mart, i took mine back, no true feedback or anything, has to be concreted into ground for it not to move, definetely not worth the 20$

One of the best swingthoughts there is, is to think of driving a nail through the golf ball. Imagine the head of the nail sticking out of the ball about 1/4" and as you swing through, just imagine you are driving that nail right through.

This thought promotes a nice slow swing through the ball and happens to be one of the big tips offered in the "AJ Truth about Golf" tapes, a very good investment in their own right.

Incidently, in the Golf Channels "Playing lessons with the Pro's" John Daly also says that is the swing thought he uses when he is hitting his shots.

I use it myself, all the time. It works, give it a try.

I purchased one of these babies years ago then bolted it to a large piece of plywood and topped it with a nice hitting mat and I have not had cabin fever since. It can be storming cats and dogs outside and I can still hit golf balls all day long.

hey Allen, some folks have said this devise isn't worth the time. does it give you a good response? can you get a good sense of wheather your hitting square?

It works great and helps me to constantly 'feel' the club's contact with the ball.

It really helps me to focus on staying down while keeping my eye on the ball longer; it also helps me focus on maintaining a compact and controlled turn which has really helped my game. I never go a day without hitting at least a few balls and it has really helped my timing and rhythm.

I can tell when I've hit it solidly and when I've hit it incorrectly.

Also, I mounted it on a base that is large enough for me to stand on and wide enough for me to maintain good balance and seporation with my feet.

Good idea. Now I just have to covince my wife that buying a sheet of plywood will improve my swing in the off season. No more divots in the carpet or ceiling would be a good selling point.

Well I still have a few marks on the ceiling and a ceiling fan that had to have one of the paddle replaced.
