Putting at Home!

im going through a blizzard where i live and cant go out to practice putting so if been using the rug upstairs which is just a little fast. What drills could i do do get better putting, anything will help since i have horrible.

Just watch Michelle Wie over a putt, or any shot. She is so steady,balance is as good as it gets. I was a very bad putter, I just
copied her, Back straight, and everything steady, just rock shoulders, I
keep my eyes on a spot 1" in front of ball on target line through out the
stroke and well after, don't look up. I would rather hear the put go in,then
to see it miss.
My putting has improved so much,I look forward to it. I never thought I
would say that.

I also practise my putting skills t home when im not out playing for , having lessons or on the range. I use the spare room due to the size and i use the putting trainer that when you get it in it sends the ball back to you.

Im so bad at puttng!!! The other day i drove the green on a par 3 at the local course. The ball landed about 2 feet from the hole... I was so excited that i lined up the shot and missed.............

My scores are high because i putt 2 to 4 times on each hole... I have looked throughout the internet for a solution and i finally found something that i can practice indoors... It's called the Boomerang.

I ordered it about two weeks ago from a seller on ebay (from canada so it just arrived today) and ended up paying $35 for the full sized tour pack.. It comes with an 8ft. putting mat and a dvd on how to beat it. I set up my little back room with it this evening after work and its so much fun! It returns the balls well and im happy with the preformance. It also is difficult! You have to hit the ball perfect to score which i feel should make me a better putter....(at least i hope so...lol) Only time will tell... The website has testimonials of several really good players and has videos of guys who can hit 15 in a row... WOW!

Putting at home is great !!!

I try no to roll balls on the carpet so much because it screws up my pace on the course...

But!!

I will lay 2 clubs parallel and work on my stroke. Only 2 minutes a day helps me nail the straight back and straight through stroke accelerating toward the target.

When I finally do get out on the course, my stroke is rock solid. gain confidence in the short ones...so then its just a matter of learning pace (which varies quite a bit course to course this time of year)

Even though it kinda sounds like the build up for an info-mercial, I completely agree. I've had a boomerang and practicing on it at home has done loads more than when I was using the carpet to a cup. The boomerang has helped me learn to hit putts straight with ideal speed. So work on that...hitting putts perfectly straight and stopping them in an exact spot. Focus on making sure the putter is hitting the ball square, because if you can't make a straight putt, how can you expect to make a breaking one?

I love mine!! Its helped me a lot.. . If you look at my scores you can see how they have started going down.. Mostly due to the boomerang...

I stand there and hit putts until my back starts hurting from bending over the line of the putter.... then i set the putter down and come back to it every once in a while..

So far i made two in a row!!! haha

Another vote for the Boomerang.

I'm ashamed to admit:

I average 37 ppr

My best 'trap and release' in a row is 2. And it's only happened 6 times.

But what a great tool for developing touch, and seeing if you push/pull putts.

i agree the boomerang is a great, my best trap and release is 9 did it 3 times so far, what it does for you it you dodnt think you can miss from 6 feet in when out on the course. i really mean it you dont think you'll miss from 6 feet.
before i would still miss some from 3 foot but not now. do you get the same feeling too clint that after a while you cant miss and you work more on the trap and relese and dont think about just holding a ball up in the cup. that has to help your game.
any one else beat 9 ???

I had to pack mine up shortly after my last post (my toddler started toddling and her favourite trick was trying to walk up the boomerang )

I look forward to unpacking it when I move this weekend, and have a garage all to myself. I only wish I could get different speed mats. I may never play Carnoustie.

Its alot of fun now adays to go to putt- putt golf courses with friends..
I never lose and as a matter of fact i usually beat everybody with me by 20 putts...hah

Here is what I do at home, when the weather is bad. I take a fire brick and putt balls to one of the smaller ends from about 6'. I use enough stroke that after hitting the brick the ball returns to me. The small end of the brick measures about 3" wide, which is much smaller than an actual golf hole.

By hitting the small end of the brick, I am working on accuracy. By hitting the ball hard enough for it return the 6' back to me, I am working on my putting stroke speed. My carpet is some what slow to putt on, but by trial and error, I have found the 6' return distance works well for me once I am on a level, green with a putt of 10-12 feet. This distance also gives me some what of reference point for down hill, and up hill putts. Putting "feel" if you wish.

Remember, all putts are straight. Obviously all putts are not always straight at the hole. Those putts not straight at the hole, are straight to a predetermined spot due to the contours of the green, but are still straight putts none the less... GJS
