Which grip do you use ?

I always thought that there was only one way to grip a golf club, with my left forefinger and right little finger interlocking, but i was looking on the internet and found a site that said this was a grip mostly used by people with small hands......my hands are like baseball mitts!

So i tried one of the other grips with no interlocking of fingers and it felt so much sturdier, i was just curious as to what most people favour ?

Re: Which grip do you use ?

I overlap and have normal size fingers. This makes the forward hand slightly more in control and dominant in feeling.

Re: Which grip do you use ?

I've got small hands for my size. I've been using interlock for a while, but since cutting the ring finger on both hands (well, a cut on one and a blister on the other), I've been hitting balls with a baseball grip, with huge success.

Lowpost,

Interesting, So when your blister and cut recovers will you be going back to the old grip or sticking with the baseball one ?

And that's the question of the week. I'm making better contact (or so it seems) with the baseball grip. I also seem to be straighter. I may not go back. I'm sure I'll add something to my journal as I fiddle with my grip.

Re: Which grip do you use ?

I started with interlock and then switched to overlap for a long time. I noticed when I played a lot thought my right hand would start hurting from where it was flexing over the left hand. I'm sure I was just gripping to tight. Anyway switched back to the interlock.
I imagine with anything there are pros and cons with each. I think I probably play better with the interlock.

Re: Which grip do you use ?

I have a very loose grip. I use an overlap grip with both thumbs pointing down the right hand side. I first started playing i used an interlock and a friend of mine who was off 4 at the time suggested i switched to overlap, then i had a few lessons and had my grip loosened even more, now i achieve more high where before i was compinsating for a block and though i was hitting it straight and consistent was not getting good hight.

Re: Which grip do you use ?

hi lowpost42
do you know any profesional golfer using baseball grip must be good to see him in a tournament so we can learn I myself really want to use baseball grip but with a bit of hesitation cause no many people use.
my problem with interlock grip is my pinky always hurt don't know why?
and hate overlap fell kind of weak right hand

Changing from interlock too overlap will feel very weak at first but you will get comfortable with it if you wish too stick with it

Re: Which grip do you use ?

Hey B11,

I'm not aware of any pro using the baseball grip. Check that. One pro.

Canadian Moe Norman. Often cited as the most accurate player ever.

Re: Grip, right hand feellike?

Hi all,
just starting out and practice swinging, however L.King suggests right thumb and forefinger just touching, or possibly thumb on top of the grip. This then leaves no thumb control with the right hand, and L.K. suggests that the 2 middle fingers form the right hand grip, of the grip !!
Going along with this, this leaves the wrist swing action 'loose' in my view, is this how it should feel, or should the right thumb play any part in holding the grip?? It feels as if acceleration through club line might be better without any thumb control, what views.? I'm happier with the overlap rather than interlock grip, and have tried the 10 finger grip, but dont want to get into bad habits, so take general concensus of advice,
thanks all, martin

I was watching a broadcast a couple years ago and the commentators were talking about a pro using the baseball grip. I believe it was Ted Purdy. I've thought about trying it but just can't bring myself to it. I guess maybe it's an ego thing.
