Practice with Purpose

I've recently changed my practice routine and are starting to reap the rewards. I'm hitting them better, my confidence is building and I'm trusting my ability.

I'm being more focused in practice, walking from it in a positive frame of mind. The practice session has no time limits as such - so long as the goal is achieved, I can leave.

All my practice includes my pre shot routine.

Some examples of what I do;

I no longer go and hit a shag bag full of balls at the range. I'll hit ten balls working on the basics such as grip, set up and so on.

Another practice session will involve hitting 5 balls with a deliberate high fade and another 5 with a low hook.

I love to do the tricky shots, I'll get my s/w and stand behind a tall bushy target. Play a nice high shot.

Or I'll stand beside a big gum tree and punch balls out under a low lying limb with my 3 wood.

Hit balls between the 'V' of the tree limbs.

and so it continues.

I've been having problems with my shots to the green. I'll grab the golf cart and drive to the 140m mark, play a shot to the green, with a fade or draw and go to the next hole.

I always leave the practice session fulfilling my goals. Thus, it's amazing what affect this has had on my mind set. I am a lot more confident and enjoying my golf a lot more.

Re: Practice with Purpose

i also just practice on the golf course for a few hours in the evening when nobody is around. i always use a club so i can see my target line and leave the bucket of balls in the cart so i dont start hitting balls mindlessly. I usually just grab 3 balls at a time and hit draw, straight, fade.

Re: Practice with Purpose

Unfortunately I don't have the facility to practice on course however my range has a good sized grass area which allows me to leave the bucket a few yards behind me and to use 3 or 4 balls at a time.

Having to walk back and pick up the next few balls gives you just that opportunity to stop and think.
