Hi Bill,
I use a Nickent " Pipe " putter, it has worked well for me, it's an excellent visual aide. I'm quite good at reading our rolling greens but I've lost my technique, I'm finding it almost impossible to use the rocking of the shoulders as I used to do a number of years ago.
I have become a bit wristy in my putting, towards the end of last season I had a number of missed 3-4 foot putts that put my rounds into the low 80's. I practiced for a bit with the broomhandled putter but I struggled with that indeed, I really like the head on my putter and I was thinking of taking it into the pro. shop and have them install a longer shaft ( belly style ) any thoughts on this ? Thanks.

Re: my putting woe's

hi Buteman
a belly putter or broomhandled putter seem to take the wrists out of play and it more mechanical and repeatable i think. if you look at the top players that have used it they all seemed to be better using the belly putter, Monty played really well with a belly putter but he don't like using one, both B Langer and S Torrance changed there game for poor putter to really good putters, even VJ Sing used one for a few years. if you do get the shaft extended and the lie adjusted for the new shaft then you should have a really good tool at your disposal but it will take a few weeks to get use to it, i find long putts are easy but harder when about 5/6 feet with the broomhandled but i still sink more puts from 5 foot than i did with my 34 inch Ping pal putter. I'm sure lowpost would be able to help you and tell you more about changing you putter into a belly putter.
i really cant give advice as i putt very strangely. i stand facing the hole with the club running down my right arm from the top of my arm, and i put my left arm over my chest to my right shoulder where i grip the top of the club. and the only part of me that moves is my right arm. it just swings back and forward like you do when walking.
it work and works really well and i am one of the best putters of a ball in my golf club but you do take a lot of slaging off for putting like that.
a picture on page 39 of Dave Pelz putting bible will show you how i putt.
cheers
bill
