Illegal to use putter handle?
The best way to read a putt is to be low to the ground, then surely putting with eyes just over the ball would give you the best chances? Is it illegal to use the putter like a pool cue? This would be hard to get the right power over long distances, but for the dreaded short putts could be useful. It would prove a laughing point to the group behind, but could subtract one or two shots.

I'll answer my own question,
Rule 14-1/2 - Striking the ball with billiard type motion
Such a manner of moving the ball constitutes a push in golf

It is illegal. You can not push the ball, you must strike it.
